Every time I'm in the city...

Without fail I have a meal at Kodama. The food is always fresh and delicious, the service is quick and you cannot beat the price. I have never had a problem with an order or service. I can't tell you how long I've had to wait for food, because it's never been an issue. I've never waited longer than 5 minutes for a table but for bigger parties I certainly suggest making a reservation. A bonus if you are a b'way patron. If you eat dinner here between the matinee and the evening performance, you will almost always catch some b'way performers dining here as well.

    Shabby decor, decent food

I've been going to Kodama for decades because I work in the area. The sushi at the sit-down restaurant is good, but with the exception of the work of the oldest sushi chef, the artful arrangements of years ago have disappeared. There used to be much decoration on the plate, now there is a fake green thing or a single piece of parsley. The fish is fresh, but the restaurant decor is so shabby that I never take anyone "new" there. I wish they would at least spend some money on new carpeting. Please!! The food you get when you order for delivery is not of the same caliber as when you eat in. The ready-made sushi in the side shop is decent for what they charge.

For years i have been coming here and it has been amazingly consistent. The fish is always fresh and is what seperates kodama from other sushi places in NY. I set my watch to delivery being 25 minutes to my particular building. Additionally i really like to eat at the restaurant when the pre-theatre crowd isn't in. The inside is very simple and allows for good conversations with good friends when it is not as busy. My personal favorite is the Kodama roll with 8 types of fish.

    Definitely will go back

First thing: The teriyaki chicken is the best thing ever. It was tender and moist and the sauce was magnificent. Even my sister, who tends to be picky, thought it was delicious as well. We all got boxes and for what we received, the price was reasonable compared to other restaurants I frequently go to. The presentation is not the best, but it's okay. The waitress was constantly refilling our water glasses and our meals came quickly. The decor and the places is not the best either since it's small and the tables tend to be close. But the food makes up for it.

    Time for an overhaul

As a frequent theater-goer, I have eaten here many times over the years, and always liked it. Last weekend's visit was on a Sunday, post-theater, and as such, the restaurant was less oppressively crowded than usual - a plus. The "minus" however was that with fewer patrons, it was easier to see how shabby the place is. It needs new carpeting, new paint and definitely some new wall decor. Apart from the dismal surroundings, the food, while adequate, was not exceptional and a far cry from the variety and quality I get in my small suburban town. We ordered a sushi/sashimi platter, which, for $21 came with only soup (no salad) and a stern "NO SUBSTITIONS" written on the menu. At my local restaurants, you are always able to request that they leave off one or more types of fish that you do not eat, especially if you allow the chef to make his own choice for substitutions. The fish was fresh but totally unimaginatively presented. We were not offered tea (maybe it is an "extra" here) and the cocktail I ordered was also only average. It may be great for take-out or a quick sushi roll if you just want to eat and run, but I wouldn't recommend it for a fine meal.

    Love this place!

I never eat at Kodama, but I get take out at least once a week. Food is always good and fish is very fresh. The sashimi appetizer is quite large for the price. I highly recommend Kodama!
