    Great Steak, good value

For a top steak house, this one is a great value because your side dishes are included in the price as well. The steak is amazing, and I frequently bring people here for special occasions. The spinach is particularly amazing, and the potatoes are great too. I've never had even so much as a questionable dish here. The wine they recommended, a half bottle of Chateau Cadillac 2005, was great for the money as well. I like this place a lot.

    I love their steak!

I'll admit I haven't been here in probably a year (maybe less)... so I'm basing this review on historical data only! Also, I've had few items off the menu as I typically only go for the steak... which is FABULOUS! And for the price and quality, in my opinion, a terrific value! I've been to Peter Luger which is excellent but very expensive. I like Knickerbocker for the bang for my buck. My only critcism is that they axed the garlic mash and I LOVED them. Even still, the regular mash is great and the creamed spinach is also excellent! The music is also great on weekend evenings, just know you end up paying for it! It'd be nice if you didn't have to! The caviar pie is also excellent as an app, though not enough toast points. But I'll usually use the bread basket to fill in those blanks. I've had salads which are also very good. Overall this is a great special occassion place that won't overly cremate your wallet (if you do the steak - since it comes with two sides and will fill you plenty!)

    Atmosphere a disappointment

The atmosphere left much to be desired. It was so noisy you couldn't hear what is usually really great music from the sound system - unless they've given up on that feature, which would be sad. Also, even on a weekend night, it was as bright as a diner. Some element of class has DEFINITELY been lost!! And that's too bad, especially since these are easily remedied problems. At least the food is still really good and our waiter was smart and attentive. The cranky manager (owner?) was in SOME mood but maybe that's because his Mets were losing. The live jazz, though, can't be beat!!

    What happened?

This was one of my favorite places. The quality of the beef has gone down. And, it was so salty. Luckily, the chocolate souffle was still good.

    a shame

I have been eating here for the last 25 years. This was my mothers favorite and i was always her companion. The last two years i have been eating in the mid afternoon in the bar room by myself. The service is non existent. It's really a shame.I refuse to go in any more. It's not like they are giving anything away.

    More was expected

I thought that the place was not terrible and the food was pretty good, definitely can't complain about the steak. Overall it's a fairly good value (about $370 for 3 including tip and drinks). Cons: too loud, very diner-like, not a very classy feel, something was just missing... the waiters are not what you'd expect at a steak house. All in all, you'd get a much better deal out of going to Striphouse just down the block, for the same $, but you walk out with a totally different five star feel... can't even compare. We had a decent time, but I definitely won't come back.

No lobster in the lobster roll!

We live in the neighborhood and have eaten here many times. The food and service are generally quite good but today's lunch was an eye opener, We ordered lobster rolls for $21... unfortunately there was NO lobster in them! The manager was completely unresponsive. We won't be going back.
