Great Place to Dine or Hang Out
Klee has great food and ambience. One can have a terrific meal in the evening, or enjoyable brunch, or just an aperitif, coffee, or dessert. On a recent visit with friends from Ft. Lauderdale we all enjoyed our meals immensely. Service was attentive and knowledgeable whether about the food or the wine list.

Don't Even Bother...
I ate at Klee last night with my boyfriend after reading that it was a CitySearch.com editor's pick for restaurants in Chelsea; it was quite disappointing! We shared the beet and blue cheese salad, which came with FOUR tiny pieces of lettuce and THREE miniature beets...all for $14. If you can count the pieces of lettuce in a salad, then it shouldn't be called a salad! We also shared the mason jar vegetables, which was good, but quite overpriced for such a small portion. For our main courses, I ordered the roast chicken, which had no flavor, and he ordered the steak, which was decent but not as tender as the waiter had hyped it up to be. I also ordered a glass of the sangria, which tasted like cold, flavorless red wine. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Klee...and neither should you.

Now I Know Why It Was Empty
I had dinner here once with a client and the space was lively and although thr food was not gastronomic, it was fine. I went again last night. A bit late; 8:45 PM. Only two tables were filled, ours being the third. We ordered the Jumbo (misnomer) Shrimp. The menu description decribed it with sausage and potato chips. It sounded interesting, and we both ordered it. The "bed" was ground turkey or chicken sausage with apples. On top of that were home made chips, perhaps five with a basting of a minute amount pesto and one medium-sized shrimp on each of five potato chips. It was less than inspiring, hardly creative and not what should be offered as a main course. But at the price of $23 (I think) I guess they couldn't get away with listing it as an appetizer. The staff is very full of themselves here. We left the ususual 20% tip but we definitely will not be back. Diners beware...

A Lovely Brunch
We've been wanting to visit Klee since we saw the chef beat Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America (Battle Beer). We finally had an opportunity to go when we were visiting our friend in his new apartment on the west side. We went for a late brunch (2PM) on a Sunday and would really recommend it to anyone who loves great and interesting brunch food, but hates the typical crushing crowds at most of the more creative brunch spots in this city. They were more or less empty, which shocked us more and more as the meal went on and the atmosphere was charming (you sit in very chic and fun brown leather swivel chairs!), the service was absolutely perfect in every way (and I'm really a stickler for service), and the all of the drinks and six dishes we ordered were inventive and delicious! I decided I needed to comment because I didn't have a single complaint--and I usually can find something!

Dissapointing
Dined at Klee's having heard and read suberb reviews. i must take issue with any accolades given to this establishment. Service was poor as the waiter was unfamiliar with menu and seemed entirely disinterested in his position and eager to complete his evening ardours. I had the steak, the quality of which was mediocre, at best. Another in our party had the monkfish, with the same assessment. A vegan accompanying us had the mason vegetable jar and enjoyed the food. The most annoying feature was that the portion size was more typical of a tasting menu than that of an entree, as both the steak and monk fish were meager in size and the scallops order by a fellow diner at an adoining table consisted of 3 scallops.

Put this on your (very) short list
A very happy accident. My GF, a vegetarian, did some searching on Menupages and found KLEE and felt she would have enough choice to make it interesting. The restaurant was very nice...casual, bright, and comfortable. Service was prompt and nicely paced. The sommelier knew her stuff. GF started with a creamless carrot soup which she loved, I tried it and and loved it as well. Beautifully spiced and great texture. Nicely paired with a veltliner. I had a half dozen oysters and also tried the mini lobster rolls. The oysters were au natural and were just okay, they were Beau Soleil which aren't my favorites but they were fresh and nice but lacked a lot of flavor (can't fault the restaurant for that). The lobster rolls were really nice, about a bite and a half each, great subtle taste that was paired with a rose "champagne". GF has a four cheese spetzel "macaroni and cheese". It was decadent and delicious. I had the pork belly. A beautiful piece of Black Hog pork belly on a bed of coffee braised gigante beans and a sour cherry relish. This dish was INCREDIBLE. I will go back again as soon as possible just to get this, it was that good. Paired both of these dishes with a half bottle of an Austrian Red that could not have been more perfect a match. Had a nice 3 cheese plate paired with a dessert wine. Nice cheeses, an American triple cream, a French blue, and a Swiss appenzeller. Coffee/espresso to finish. All in all a wonderful meal with friendly, genuine service. Great value, wonderful, wonderful, wine list with a great slection of 1/2 bottles (all too hard to find today). Would go back in a second and will be recommending to freinds.

The Food is good , but not as good as they claim it to be ! Got a nice bottle of wine for under $40 , but was given the cold shoulder for not ordering a more expensive bottle .which i was not to happy about !!!!! Did get to have an unusal chat with the owner in which I felt uncomfortable because she came off as not being sincere !!! I left feeling insulted which is sad because their food is good , and the wine list is outstanding , but it is not enough to overcome the attitude you get from the owner and her staff
