A joke
Having read the reviews of this place my friend and I decided to pop in for a bit of lunch. From the menu we choose a lemonade, a sparkling water, soup and a chicken caesar salad. When I went up to place our order the waitress told me there was no sparkling water and no soup. That was fine with my friend, he wasn't that hungry. He said he'd have a coke (also on the menu) instead. No coke. Iced tea would have to do. After a few minutes the waitress came from behind the counter and said that she was just going to pop upstairs to see if they had any chicken left.Out the front door she went, leaving the place completely unattended. Take a wild guess as to what she said on her return. Yep, no chicken! At that point I just asked for the bill. In fairness to her she didn't charge us for the tea. We paid for the lemonade and left. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Hidden Gem
This cafe is one of my favorite in the city. Intimate and remote, it's the perfect place to get away from the pomp and pretension of most options in the city. Kiva is the quintessential neighborhood cafe, where community life is fostered and enriched around a cup of coffee. Kiva provides a myriad of neighborhood events, including art showings and poetry readings. The staff are wonderful and engaging (and way cute, full disclosure). Being from the Pacific Northwest, the coffee itself was not spectacular (think.coffee makes a better latte), but it wasn't bitter, which is rare in the city. I like the earthenware touch. The food is a bit overpriced, however the warm, cozy atmosphere is worth the extra expense (indeed, I would pay the markup just for the space and service). The wine selection is decent (I enjoyed the Chilean red wine, which had a spicy hint to it). Potential patrons should be aware that everything is made fresh and space is limited, thus food preparation takes a bit longer than normal - but this is the type of place where you should expect, no, want to wait. Overall, a great place, one to add to your list of regulars.

A Breath of Freshness
Just went there for lunch and this place is one of the most "charming" I've been to in Tribeca (you'll understand the quotes when you make it over there hint, take a look at the tables!). Try a sandwich and have a cup of tea. It's the perfect balance between quick bite and sit-back-and-relax-you-deserve-moment. Prices are reasonable to lunch. The quality and freshness of the ingredients are worth it.

Cozy
This place along with Pecan a few blocks north is a perfect place to warm up on a dreary frigid day. But unlike the large airy Pecan this place is small and cozy - too cozy if more than 5 or 6 people show up. Service was especially friendly. The soups I've tried were outstanding. Salads big, a good value. Pretty good tea [select]ion - served in what looks like hand made pottery. A lot of stuff is crammed into a small place. Seems to double as a gift shop. Pottery and Jewelry are on sale.

Pretty Place...
Pretty place, but easy to miss. In the middle of a mostly residential block in Tribeca. Inconspicuous - not obviously a restaurant. An entire wall devoted to pottery. Tables doubling as display cases for jewelry. All for sale. Good sandwiches, soups and baked goods. Very friendly service. Lots of Jazz and world/international music playing. Wine, but no beer.
