this place isn't to everybody's taste but we LOVE it! we eat here and order in from them all the time - when we moved to a new place in the neighborhood, the delivery guy commented on it! They are actually Bangladeshi, not Indian (which I think addresses some of the complaints in other reviews).

I love this place and go here when in the mood for their shrimp tandoori. Huge shrimp and oh so good! I have been going there for years and honestly have never had bad service or attitute even when I have gone in with my messy toddler (rice on floor, you name it). I would have given it a higher rating for atmosphere but let's face it, it isn't some fancy downtown lounge. I just ordered in so they are probably relieved that I am not bringing my crazy baby in there right now :-)

Great Indian food in the hood, however numerous times I have been told, "I don't have time for questions people are waiting" when I wanted to ask a 2 second question about a dish. Other rudeness has been seriously demonstrated when actually eating there that it's really weird... like whoa. Hope you're pro's at ordering Indian when even attempting this place.

I've never had a bad meal here. That's my criteria for this neighborhood. There are some exquisite restaurants in the world, but this is where I wanted to live, and there are very, very few reliably decent restaurants. I have had truly inedible meals from places in Washington Heights & Inwood that's another story. But in the restaurant or delivery, I've never regretted Kismat. That sounds like kind of lame praise. But that's the real criteria, usually, for people who live anywhere near here. If you can't afford to drop $40 per person every night, you have to learn what works. Two people in the same Indian (or Mexican, or Italian) family will disagree about what's good and what's not. So saying something isn't Indian or isn't as good as someplace else is kinda silly, IMHO. Even Iceland has people quarreling about what's good Icelandic fare. Unless you're a foodie (ok, I am, but a reasonable one) or naive, all that matters is, did you like it. 99% of the Chinese restaurants in NYC would be boycotted in China. This is NYC, and they're in business, so they can't give us actual X food. From Kismat, I have always gotten clean food, Indian-style food, and reasonable portions. Indian meals have lots of components, and the restaurant does well with those, even for delivery. I find many things I like, and I do not get into a rut with these people (ordering the same thing every time because you have had to toss out previous meals from a restaurant). That's a very good recommendation.

I don't know why anyone knocks this place - my girlfriend and I love this place and order takeout from here about every two weeks. Never eaten in the restaurant, but it looks cool - especially for Washington Heights standards. Highly recommended!

The food was bland and disappointing. Delivery took over an hour to come and the food was cold by the time it arrived. Save your money and order a pizza.

The Bombay Hen stuffed with Lamb is to die for. Very good food, better than Tawwa, the only other option near-by for Indian food.
