    Amazing Indian Food!

I love Kismat. The food is consistently delicious, the service in the restaurant is excellent, and the delivery is fast. I've eaten Indian food all over the city, and this is some of the best. I don't know what the last reviewer was talking about--perhaps the Indian food isn't perfectly authentic, I wouldn't know, but it's similar to that provided by most other Indian restaurants in the city. If you want authentic food, go to India! If you want delicious Indian cuisine as it is typically prepared in the U.S., go to Kismat!

    this is not Indian Food

We ordered a couple of times from here and have been highly disappointed both the times. We ordered the lamb Biryani the first time ..tasted like somethng we never imagined would be called biryani...it was more like a pilaf with peas (never found in true biryani), Sweet coconut garnishing (absolutely unheard of) and the spices were raw and and overpowering..didn't taste of anything. We realized it was a bad idea to order biryani from any "Indian " restaurant. However Biryani is hard to make and only a few Pakistani and Bangaldeshi places in the NY/NJ areas can do it right. We decided not to order from Kismat again ..But sadly we decided to give the place a shot after almost a year..We ordered Aloo Paratha and Mughlai Paratha..pretty simple dishes ..Hard to screw up ...but we were in for a rather unpleasant suprise.. They looked like empanadas stuffed with bland mashed potatoes and deep fried ! aloo paratha should have mashed potatoes mixed in with the dough before baking on a pan with some butter, no deep frying involved...Unfortunately this place failed on both accounts to even produce a dish not even conceptually close to the original dishes..It does leave us wondering who does the cooking here but one thing for sure ..we will never order from here again.

    Fresh, Amazing Indian Food!

Kismat has by far one of the top indian restaurants in manhattan. I always order Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Saag, and Naan. The lamb is so delicate and fresh, and it's very difficult for many restaurants to cook lamb well. You need to try this place out. If you are planning on eating at the location, it's nice for the prices they have.

Really Solid Indian in the Heights...

...and not only for uptown, but for all of NYC. Baluchis is overpriced and only mediocre. We've been eating in/ordering for three years the service is always top-notch and the food is really great. I've ordered a lot from this menu, and have never had anything I didn't like. The raisin/nut naan is amazing. The dude who titled his review 'Inedible Indian in Inwood' didn't even get the name of the hood right. This is clearly Washington Heights, not Inwood man, and Kismat is a neighborhood staple.

    Inedible Inwood Indian

Clearly the worst Indian food I've ever eaten. This is my first and last time ordering from this restaurant. I ordered the Samosa (mediocre sadly the high point), the Aloo Bengan, Shrimp Malai and Naan Bread. I was shocked at the blandness of the food. I've never put salt on Indian food, but I was really hungry and it was the only way to get it down. The Aloo Bengan was oily and bitter. Only the middle part of the naan (the ends were huge lumpy blobs of dough) was edible. Even the coriander sauce was too sweet. The cabbage that comes with the meal was completely tasteless. Another failure in a neighborhood of culinary let downs. Will someone please open an inexpensive, good restaurant? Our neighborhood is in desperate need of good eats.

    Great, relaxed meal

Went here a few weeks ago with friends and had a nice, relaxing meal. I have always found the service to be friendly and attentive, though on the serious side. The food is very good and the prices are excellent. The delivery service is also extremely fast. I will definitely continue to patronize this restaurant and recommend it for a nice night out that won't break the bank!
