I thought I liked Afghani food....

Perhaps you're not supposed order take out from here.... I waited an hour for the delivery. The food was cold, the sambosas were limp and tasteless, the humus was runny, the bread/pita was stale, the only somewhat redeeming part of my meal was the Kabuli Palow with Lamb. Aside from being cold, the flavors were decent it's just that the lamb was a little dry (not sure how since it was delivered in its own stew). I'll never order from here again. I'll probably actually never order afghani food again.

    Our Favorite

There is no doubt when we travel into NYC from Jersey that our family makes plans to head to the East Village for the Khyber Pass. We were blown in with the cold winds of Jan. 2 to a warm welcoming atmosphere with fantastic service and delicious food. Our vegitarian daughter was thrilled with her choice while my wife and I chose 'Dinner for Two.' It was all great and the service made us want to come back but we already knew we'd be back again. Hopefully soon!

    Hookahhhhh

Khyber Pass is like our second home apart from college. We come here about 6/ out of the 7 days a week to smoke hookah. Now to explain why we put 0.0 as the food rating... we've never eaten there we go there for the sole purpose of smoking hookah. Ps: nobody can have our booth its the one on the left side..well actually both of them they're reserved. Now rating the hookah its UHmazing you can mix flavors put them in fruits and its just awesome. The hookah is cheap too 15 bucks a hookah. as for drinks we usually drink poland spring but they're coffee (cappucino) is really good too. The environment its comfortable and relaxing. if you get lucky some one might just whip it out under the table. (true story) Just don't sit outside if you're gonna smoke cuz there are people who keep asking if your hookah is weed and it clearly isn't. The music is awesome we often dance to it.. and hookah just generally liquifies your brain. Show up and have fun.

Not what it used to be

This was once such a bargain, now I believe the chef may have changed and quality is lower. Too bad, it's an authentic EV institution.

    Great food, bad service

I've gone here on many occasions and have enjoyed the food every time. The service, however, is one of the worst in the city. The waitresses hardly speak english and are confusing as hell. But I would go back.

probably my first and last time eating afghani food

My roommate and I wanted to try something new so we went here. The waitress had to be asked to refill our water after 10 minutes of empty glasses. After she brought our food, she left us and never turned toward us so it took about 20 minutes after we were done to get a chance to ask the busboy for our check. We never even got to speak to the waitress again. The bread was dry and tasteless. The food was small portions and bland and not good. We had each asked the waitress her preferred dish of 2 choices so she had chosen our food for us. If those were her favorite, I'm scared to know what her not favorites tasted like. I am one of the least picky eaters and as long as it's a food I like, I don't care how it's prepared and it always tastes good to me but this was truly not a good meal and I would not go back here and unless I saw a very different menu in an Afghani place, would probably never try Afghani food again.

A nice alterative to the usual

This place has been here since like forever. The location is horrible(under a staircase and below street level). You might miss it if you're not looking for it, but DO look. This is the most authentic Afghan in the city. The atmosphere, the smells, the food, all superb. Portions are huge and reasonably priced. The kabobs are to die for. A nice change of pace from the usual falafel and gyro scene.
