Not good
I am surprised to find so many positive reviews about this place. The decor and atmosphere is depressing. Service was poor. I suggest City Diner down the block. Same owner, better quality.

Stay away
This is the biggest rip-off in town. A good example of this is as follows: I order a ham egg and cheese sandwich, I specify that instead of ham I would like turkey. Ok, not too difficult. Ham+egg+cheese=$4.50 ok not cheap Turkey+egg+cheese=$9.00! Are you KIDDING me? This must be some rare breed of turkey. Now for the service.... They mess up EVERY delivery. Example: Toasted roll with bacon, cream cheese and jelly on the side. Easy right? WRONG. Either they forget the CC or the Jelly or they don't toast the roll and even once there was no bacon. To top it all off, they have a bar in the diner. PERFECT! Until you ask for a bloody mary and the old man who runs the place tells you that he doesn't want to serve you alcohol even though everybody else is having their Sunday morning drink. Don't be mistaken, I am not a punk or a thug, I had my golf clubs, wearing slacks and on my way to the links.

The best service ever!
Myself and four friends just came back from a short stay in New York and eat breakfast at the diner all but one day. We loved it so much! You're automatically given a glass of water when you sit down; the service is excellent, all the staff are super friendly and seem so happy to be doing their jobs! The breakfasts are really substancial and typically American- which is just what we were after. We'll definitely be coming back next time we visit NYC- just hope the same staff are there then!!

Great diner
Stick to diner classics - hot turkey sandwiches, roast chicken, chicken souvlaki. The romanian steak and the steak tips in wine sauce are surprisingly good. Fantastic homemade blue cheese dressing!! The cocoanut-lemon cake is the best. Breakfast is good - especially the corned beef hash (not canned) and the frittata. Option of turkey sausage or bacon. I think the hamburgers are only so-so but the kids love them. Also, avoid fish unless it is a special. Salads are huge - in fact many of the entrees can be split.

American Breakfast Heaven
My friend and I stayed at a hostel on West 914th street and on our first day we didn't know where to go for breakfast! We walked up the road and saw Key West Diner and thought, let's give it a go. We ended up breakfasting there every morning of our 6 day stay! The food was perfectly yummy :) My travel friend was from Colorado (But has lived in Ireland for a few years), It was my first time in the US and my Diner/American Breakfast experience was limited to seeing them in TV and Film :) The Key West Diner didn't disappoint, you walk in the door and you feel appreciated, you're welcomed in and taken care of. You're shown to a booth and offered a coffee (or what drink you'd prefer) then when you're ready you give your breakfast order! Over the 6 days I tried many breakfast options! French Toast with Sausage and Bacon was my favourite, but you have so many more options and IMHO they were all Delicious :) I'd have loved to have had the time to try the evening menu at the Key West but as we had late starts getting out and about we were too late getting back in the evening to try them. Maybe when/if I make it back to NY later this year I will :) With my Review, the ONLY reason I rated the Service at 3.5 is a couple of days we were seated at the back of the Diner as they were busy I guess! The food was still great but I only got 1 cup of coffee no body asked us if I wanted a refill A Minor problem for sure, I'd eat there again and recommend it to my travelling friends :)

Best Burger on UWS
Key West's Mediterranean burger is THE best burger I have ever eaten. It is consistently cooked to order, too. I've been going to this diner for 10 years. The usuals -- grilled cheese, salads, breakfast -- is always great. Prices have gone up a lot here of late, but they've gone up everywhere else, too. Still a great diner, although I wish the folks who hang out at the cash register would smile once in a while!

Poor phone service mediocre food
When I called for a delivery the phone guy was very rude. It wouldn't have bothered me much had the French Toast not been bland and the eggs tasteless. How do you screw up over-easy egg? You get what you pay for, I guess.
