    What a place!

I had a dinner at Kefi the other night and it was GREAT. Amazing food at a cheap price; try the Octopus, Sausages, Branzino, Lamb chops or Dumplings. They are all to die for. Its very rare that you see such beautiful high quality food presented at such a low price. I'll go back as soon as i can!

Loved it on 79; growing pains on Columbus

Love the food, loved the service, on 79th (didn't really love the cramped space but hey that's why they moved.) Definite growing pains in new space. New waiters part of problem but the food is still good. Maybe stick to take out and try again when they get the kinks worked out.

    Great Greek Food

I went there on a Saturday night with 11 of my friends and we all left there happy and content. Even though we had to wait for our table for about 15 minutes, we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better. And let's not forget just how reasonable the prices are. No wonder the place is crowded. If you're looking for pretentiousness then this isn't the place for you.

    Disappointed by Psilakis....

We heard amazing things about the old restaurant, and decided to give it a try at the new local. We made a reservation for 7:45, arrived a few minutes early and were not seated until 8:15. The appetizers were decent, but when we asked for more bread they took the basket and never brought it back. When the entrees were brought out they left us with the same dirty fork and knife... we asked for a clean set and the waitress sneered at us. The entrees were flavorless and not filling. The cappuccinos at the end of the meal were 95% foam and 5% coffee. The noise lever was out of control, and we were barely able to hear one another. Plus the restroom was in a disgraceful condition. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.... it is Not worth the hype.

    Torture

This place was great when it was on West 79th. The food is still good and the prices reasonable, but what a mess. We had a reservation and were kept waiting over a half-hour (along with a multitude of other diners, so at least I can't take it personally.) The hostess kept telling us you're next and then about ten minutes later when I asked about our status, said, "Oh, I'm glad you showed up" as if I'd just walked in. Worse, the two dozen or so (no exaggeration) of us poor waiting saps were all standing crammed together and becoming more and more disgruntled to the point where I thought it was about to turn into a scene from "Day of the Locusts." When we were finally seated (just as we were about to walk out), we were crammed in at the table and pretty darned uncomfortable. The waitress was pleasant and the food pretty good, but GEEZ! Never again.

disappointing... the Upper West Side Cafeteria

I have no idea what all the good reviews for this place are talking about. My husband and I went to Kefi on a Saturday night for what we thought would be a casual, neighborhood meal and what we arrived to was a mess. The first floor is crowded, the tables are pushed together, the bar is a zoo, but none of it is that bad. If you are taken to a table downstairs you should not walk, but run in the other direction and never return. Its dark, its beyond crammed, it takes 4 tables to move around just so you can get to the inside seat, you cant hear what your dining companion is saying because its so noisy, but you do in fact hear the conversations of the people sitting to your right and left - they're practically in your lap. I have never left a restaurant mid meal, but this was a first. Its a cafeteria - sure, the prices are nice and the food isnt awful, but my god, this is not a meal. The closest thing I can compare it to is TGIFridays with Greek food. If you're taking your 10 year old daughter and her entire soccer team out for dinner - this might be the place.

Amazing food for a decent price

Don't Miss This Restaurant! Having loved the old Kefi, I was excited to try the new, and finally went last night. I am happy to report that not a bit of the fantastic taste and value has been lost, and in fact some great new dishes have been added. The atmosphere is a bit crowded, but the service, value, and food make up for it. It is a great place for a fun date, or a large group (but make reservations first, since it is quite crowded). My server was VERY knowledgeable and helpful on both the wine an food. All the wines are Greek, but don't let that deter you! The whites especially, were supurb. For apps, we loved the meatballs, spreads, and thought the Octopus was the best we have tasted in the City. For dinner the Bronzino and Lamb Chops were great as expected, but rabbit pasta also really was good. The hanger steak was average, but I would recommend sticking to the traditional greek items (basically the rest of the menu).
