    Everything was wonderful!

Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. I have now eaten there twice and both times everything was wonderful.

    hugely overrated-skip it

I feel compelled to relate the really terrible dinner experience 3 of us endured at kefi last night. I had such great anticipation after the media blitz about the beautiful restauranteur who provided great food at reasonable prices, as well as the lines out the door. Even with our reservation we were seated downstairs all the way in back behind a column by the back exit door. The low ceilings made the din so loud I could not hear my tablemate; the spacing so crammed the harried waiters keep knocking my chair. My son found his chicken souvlaki inedible, soaked in vinegar. My pork medallions were buried under a mound of cabbage and large, hard, whole stemmed olives. We were out of there in less than 50 minutes, leaving most of our food. The $103 bill, before tip, was no bargain ( this includes 3 beers and one glass of white wine). All in all, it was a profoundly unpleasant experience and and the inexplicable popularity is a perfect example of the emporers new clothes. Skip it, big time...

    Great Place for a Dieter

Now that they have moved to a more sprawling dining room on Columbus it is a more comfortable place to eat. The food is quite good but the portions are miserably small. It's as if the entrees should be listed as appetizers, to give you a fair value for what you pay. Ideal for those on a weight loss plan. After having my tiny entree I was still hungry and then proceeded order an app. I'm not looking to gorge myself but I'd like to at least feel sated after a meal, not leave hungry. This leaves me feeling like I am not in a rush to return. The upper west side still remains a wasteland for restaurants and thus Kefti is a huge hit, something it would not be in virtually any other part of town. Oh well. At least we have nice parks up here.

    Great experience

Terrific food and even better prices. The ambiance was, well, Greek (if it has white walls and blue-white ornaments, it's Greek). The sardine appetizer was terrific (beautifully filleted), and the sheep's milk ricotta dumplings with lamb sausage was out of this world. The service was just fine, and I think some of the other people who posted here are a bit over the top in complaining about it. The place is BUSY and fairly sizable. Even so, the food certainly comes out in a very timely manner. I think that they were a little slow in handling the payment, but we didn't care much, as we were ouzo'd up and enjoying ourselves. The servers made great recommendations and were quite knowledgeable about all the items on the menu. If I lived closer to this restaurant, I'd go once a week.

    Loud and not cheap

While the appetizers (meatballs, eggplant, octopus) were very good, the noise was unbearable. They also charged for pita bread which should have come with the appetizers. The pasta with rabbit was oily; the shrimp tasted of mercurcy. The portions are small. I don't know why it is so popular.

    Great Food...SUCH poor service!

I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where the food was so good, and the service was so bad. Amazing Branzino dish...and great lamb chop special.....bread was warm and wonderful....nice desserts Had to wave our arms to get the ordering process started...the server new nothing about the wines....they took our bottle of wine away to chill it as we ate, but we couldn't get their attention to get the bottle back when our glasses ran empty.... One more complaint (sorry)...the blue T-shirts that the waitstaff wore made it seem like we were in a pizza parlor! Please get your service straightened out!!....It's a total insult to the food!

    not allergy friendly!

We went there for a nice Sunday brunch. Should be simple enough, we had no expectations we just wanted to have a nice quiet brunch. For starters, the waiter was annoying, rude and simply not helpful. I am allergic to dairy products so when I ordered my meal I stated the fact and requested no dairy (even though non was in the dish, just to make sure). The waiter understood and all was good. So we waited. We waited 40 min for 2 scrambled eggs and a pita wrap (mind you that the place was nearly empty, god knows how long it takes when its full). When I received my wrap the salad and plate was covered with goat cheese. Now, I am not one of those annoying guys that start making a scene, so I simply stated that I requested without cheese since I am allergic. The waiter said sorry and returned to the kitchen with the plate. 2 min later he comes back with the dish. Now, it dosnt take 2 min to make that dish. I mean we waited 40 min before, now it takes 2 min? Obviously what they did was scrape the cheese from the plate. That is simply crazy. I am super allergic to dairy, I can go to the hospital from eating it and what they do is return the same dish with the cheese scraped and smothered allover. Ridiculous and amateurish. So, I explained again, without making a scene, please make a totally new dish. I explained that I am allergic and that cheese can cause me harm. The waiter took the plate again and took it to the kitchen. So I waited. My wife and friend already finished their meal. I was about to cancel it all together but on that notion the dish returned. Guess what was on the dish, hiding inside the wrap this time (not on the salad). You guessed it, goat cheese. I am not sure if this is intentional or comes from plain stupidity. The manager, after realizing what happened, let us leave without paying a dime. I asked my wife and friend how was the food in general, they said both at the same time...dry.
