Restaurant is great - delivery a disaster

we love going to this restaurant - great food and good prices (though it can be a little loud). Recently I ordered delivery. After over an hour, the food had still not arrived. Only eat in - forget the delivery.

    Bad Experience Towards the End

So I order my second glass of wine which takes a long time to come. As I'm finishing the wine, the manager comes over and ask's us to hurry up since a party of 5 is waiting to be seated. It was very rude! Plus, the food was average. I don't recommend it.

We made reservations on a Friday night yet still had to wait about a half n hour to be seated. Yes the tables are close but this is NY after all. Our waitress was attentive and the manager even came over to help pick out a bottle of wine. We ordered the meatballs (my gf makes them better) and I got the Chicken Sov. (delicious!) and my girlfriend got the dumplings (average like her looks.) Would I come back?

    Excellent apps-ok entrees

For apps we ordered the sweetbreads, meatballs, octopus, greek salad, and the sardines. While the sweetbreads were not the best I've ever had and the salad was somewhat pedestrian, the meatballs, octopus and sardines were out of this world! For entrees we ordered the lamb shank, branzino, swordfish, hangar steak and the pork chop special. All were tasty, but nothing stood out. The total disappointment was the pork chop. It was dry, tough and basically flavorless. Luckily we stuck around for dessert. The rice pudding and orange custard were enough for 5 people to share and were a sweet ending to a meal that left something to be desired.

And they say there are no good restaurants on the UWS

I cannot say enough good things about Kefi. The service was incredibly attentive, even in a dining room full of people. The food was excellent -fresh, inventive spins on greek classics. The grilled branzino was fresh, perfectly cooked, and I was pleasantly surprised by the giant caperberries that surrounded it. The mussels were delicous -heavier than most restaurants, as they had a broth of tomato and feta, but this actually worked very well. The greek salad was fresh, generously portioned, and and some inventive additions, like scallions and tiny strips of grilled onions. It totally worked. The only thing I didn't like was how brightly the room was lit, but this style of lighting is actually more authentically european, and I'm assuming that is what they are going for. We had two courses, 3 drinks, and with a generous tip, paid $80. This is UNHEARD of in Manhattan, I felt like we were robbing them. Great neighborhood place, and the rest of the 'hood should follow its example. Food first, period, end of story. Thank you for a great meal Kefi.

    Maitre Don't

I booked a table about two weeks before my Saturday 7:15 reservation, specifying (on the online form) that it was to be a special occasion to celebrate my parents' 40th anniversary. I wrote that we would be "very grateful" for the best table available for us at that time. Maybe my request overstepped the line, because we were shown to the absolute worst table in the entire restaurant (no exaggeration), right next to the kitchen and busy stairway with a strong air-conditioning vent making my mom uncomfortable throughout the dinner. Despite this likely deliberate chicanery, the waitress was pleasant and the food delicious. I suppose I'd go back, but please replace that maitre d.
