great for food lovers
We had the best cod ever, the best octopus and the branzino is to die for! Fantastic place, great service!Feels like home!

unimpressed
Seating was cramped. The waitress was less than friendly and not willing to accomodate any alterations to any of the menu items. The food was too salty , the fish (branzino) was greasy, and there were very few vegetables, other than spinach literally drowning in both butter and olive oil.

Good restaurant if your on a budget
This restaurant is not a special occasion sort of place, It is a good place to meet a friend or two for a casual meal or maybe a pre-opera or theatre meal. Nothing very exciting on the menu, but nicely prepared rustic food. The place has about half as many tables as it shoud so it gets pretty crowded and noisy. The service, though, is attentive and friendly, and the drinks are cheap. The bill for my friend and I sharing an app, each having a drink and an entree and sharing dessert was $62 with tax and tip. I will go back again- it will find its own little niche in this 'hood

The Best Choice on the UWS
Rarely a restaurant pleases me as much as Kefi did last week. There was a wait for a table, but I did not mind to wait 20 minutes at the bar and try some wines from the excellent all Greek list that was so gently priced. In fact, I do not remember the last time that a restaurant offered an $18 bottle of wines and there were several at Kefi. The dining room is really charming with the white and blue colored scheme and the food is simply delicious and restrained. I loved the octopus and the striped bass and the service was really professional. More important with main courses in the mid-teens I can indulge dining at Kefi often without breaking the bank.

On the shortlist...
We tried Kefi after reading the Times and NYMag reviews-- it was a GREAT treat. We started with the selection of spreads, each was delicious. My husband had the lamb and I had the swordfish. The swordfish was one of the best fish entrees I have had to date. The favors are strong but in perfect balance. Service was friendly and attentive. Yes, as others have pointed out, the eating area is cramped. This is not the place you want to go with a group-- but for two it was perfect. We'll be back!

An ok place - can't say we'll be back
The food was good, nothing to rave about, just plain good. The sweetbreads appetizer was delicious, but the octopus appt & main courses of braised lamb and lamb chops were on the bland side. The reason we will likely not return is not because of food, but because the place is very cramped and uncomfortably stifling. We love tiny places that are cozy and charming, but this place does not have that vibe. If we're in the neighborhood, perhaps we'll drop in for lunch, but for dinner there's just too many other choices out there.

Rude Service
No high chair is available. We were 6 adults and a baby and they gave us a table which can seat 4 people only! When we asked for a larger table, the owner/manager said he'll be losing a space he wants for more customers. The place is too crowded. The food was good, though the size of the appetizers was on the small side.
