And they say there are no good restaurants on the UWS
I cannot say enough good things about Kefi. The service was incredibly attentive, even in a dining room full of people. The food was excellent -fresh, inventive spins on greek classics. The grilled branzino was fresh, perfectly cooked, and I was pleasantly surprised by the giant caperberries that surrounded it. The mussels were delicous -heavier than most restaurants, as they had a broth of tomato and feta, but this actually worked very well. The greek salad was fresh, generously portioned, and and some inventive additions, like scallions and tiny strips of grilled onions. It totally worked. The only thing I didn't like was how brightly the room was lit, but this style of lighting is actually more authentically european, and I'm assuming that is what they are going for. We had two courses, 3 drinks, and with a generous tip, paid $80. This is UNHEARD of in Manhattan, I felt like we were robbing them. Great neighborhood place, and the rest of the 'hood should follow its example. Food first, period, end of story. Thank you for a great meal Kefi.

Maitre Don't
I booked a table about two weeks before my Saturday 7:15 reservation, specifying (on the online form) that it was to be a special occasion to celebrate my parents' 40th anniversary. I wrote that we would be "very grateful" for the best table available for us at that time. Maybe my request overstepped the line, because we were shown to the absolute worst table in the entire restaurant (no exaggeration), right next to the kitchen and busy stairway with a strong air-conditioning vent making my mom uncomfortable throughout the dinner. Despite this likely deliberate chicanery, the waitress was pleasant and the food delicious. I suppose I'd go back, but please replace that maitre d.

overrated
mac and cheese was over salty. Lamb shank was good. Tables are too close together..... not the best in town.

Cheap and Yummy
I went to Kefi last week with a girlfriend and we sat at the bar to eat. We asked for wine reccomendations and got exactly what we hoped for - since we didn't know anything about Greek wine. The food was really great too! at first the portions looked a little small, but they were filling and delicious! The bartenders were very funny too and actually remember my friend being there a few weeks ago. I can't wait to go back again!

Wonderful experience
I went here with my girlfriend because her friends chose it. Wonderful experience; it helped that the manager was serving our table, too; his articulation of the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this place and the lamb dishes.

Excellent food and service
I just held my daughter's bridal shower at Kefi this past weekend and wanted to praise the manager, Brenda, who assisted me in planning this shower. She was very accommodating and so easy to deal with. The wait staff was extremely efficient and kept a low profile while taking my guests' orders and serving the food while various speeches and other activities were going on. They had the wine chilling even before we arrived early to set up the favors and centerpieces. They even helped my 2 elderly aunts down the stairs to the party room. After reading a lot of the bad reviews of this restaurant I was a little nervous to have 50 women here for the shower but it is one of my daughter's favorite places so I booked it. I was so impressed with the attention to detail, the organization and especially the delicious food which was very fresh and served piping hot, not an easy feat when feeding a large crowd. There was only praise from my guests regarding the food, the service and ambiance. The room downstairs is rustic and warm in its decor and a nice change from the ususal party rooms. Everyone had a great time and seemed to feel very comfortable in this restaurant. My husband and I will be back here for dinner in the near future!! I highly recommend Kefi Restaurant! Thanks Brenda and staff for a wonderful bridal shower!!

kitchen knows what it's doing
high ceilinged front room extremely reverberates, made almost empty room seem noisy, service handicapped by layout, plates stored on front window sill ( no waiter's station.) a disappointment, has potential but is far from reaching it.....
