We celebrated my husband's birthday on January 2, 2009 at Keens. He is a huge fan of prime rib. I searched numerous websites before going to New York for the best prime rib in New York. Well...we found it! The best prime rib we've ever tasted in our lives! My husband ordered the King's Cut prime rib. It was huge and melted in your mouth. The ambience was nice. Candles lit on the white table clothes. We were seated in a corner booth and had a female waitress. She was excellent. We were impressed with the idea that this wasn't a chain restaurant. They have over 90,000 pipes hanging on the ceiling. It was easy to locate the restaurant. We actually walked there from Times Square. As we were leaving, the man near the door called my husband by name and wished him Happy Birthday! Now that is attention to detail. I would recommend this restaurant for prime rib to anyone! Enjoy. I will return there on my next visit to New York.

Don't believe the reviewers here carping about the food at Keens. Went last night to celebrate a birthday, and couldn't have been happier with the meal or the service. The menu's classic steakhouse, done extremely well, no more, certainly no less. The portions are huge, the food's flavorful, and the service is quick without being obtrusive. There's a reason Keens has flourished for so many years they've maintained a winning formula. For what it's worth, one of the members of my party eats out 4-5 times a week in Manhattan, in restaurants ranging from the trendiest newcomers to the tried and true, and he thinks Keens is the most satisfactory of all the New York steakhouses. Go and enjoy.

Myself and my partner recently visited Keens whilst in NY. We were reccomnded Keens from reading a number of sites. I opted for tomato, onion & blue cheese salad - my partner had lobster bisque. - Both average. We then opted for the Chataubriad - the second most expensive dish on the menu. It came out undercooked with 3 lack lustre sauces. The portion sizes in this place are huge, but I would chose quality over portion size every time. The steak was too salty and we only ate two slices of the meat. We enede with a New York Cheesecake that was again, nothing to brag about. This place does not live up to the hype, I think people only like it becuase it's olde worlde - I think it could do with a good clean, a revamp of the menu and a server that actually serves you rather than you trying to catch his/her eye all night whilst they mess about with thier buddies that also work there. Our meal was about $200 - A waste of money completely. I would never go there again or reccomend it. Not even to my worst enemy! Don't be fooled into thinking because this business is old, it equates to it being great food. Trust me, it doesn't.

My wife and went there the first night we were in NYC. I had been there a couple of times before. She had never been so I was hoping that I had not hyped it up more that it was. We both were very impressed with everything about the place. The service was amazing and the food it out of this world. I would recommend that if you are looking for and awesome meal go to Keen's.

The mister and I made plans for New Years Eve about a month ago. For some reason, he felt like having an early bird special so we made our reservation for 4:30. A week or so later the manager of Keens called to apologize for having confirmed the reservation but wanted to let me know the dining room would not be open until 5:30. It was no real bother to us but she offered us a drink on the house which I thought was very kind. When we got our bill ALL of our drinks were removed and we were floored. Even had they not been our dinner was a great value and my boyfriend wants to go back already his steak was so good.

I was in the mood for a great steak, my buddy John recommended that I try this restaurant which is near his office. We were a party of 3. All had a wonderful meal and a great time. Our wait-staff Mr Sonny was welcoming, efficient & professional. I ordered his recommended Lobster Bisque, Prime Filet Mignon (I had it plain, and Sonny sliced it for me), Keens's Creamed Spinach & Mashed Potatoes. Totally delicious! For dessert I had the Iowa Caramel Custard (Sonny decided to serve it just warm enough because he remembered I had mentioned that I was bleaching my teeth and felt a little sensitive, amazing guy.) John & Hedi enjoyed their T-bone and Sirloin too. Their desserts: Creme Brulee & Cheese Cake .We were very happy with the food and felt pampered! Would surely go back.

Decided to eat at this restaurant having read great reviews. However, was truly disappointed. The ambience was really good, nice and cosy, but was, quite honestly, disappointed with the food. My husband enjoyed his fish dish, but my steak tasted like it had been oven cooked. The size of the steak was also too big, but not as big as the racks of lamb which were served to the table beside us. These were SO big that before I even ate, the look of them put me off my food!!! Prices not too bad - fair for the type of restaurant, service was excellent, but will not be returning when I'm back in New York.
