Not worth it
Yes, it's a very cool building, but the steaks, although huge, were nothing special. The potatoes got cold quickly as well as the asparagus, which came close to cold. The server was great until he wanted the check paid and to get us out of his section, which had empty tables. Save your $200.

An unbelievable experience all around-you get wht you pay for!
I came to Keens with my husband and parents and we had what I can safely say was one of the all-time great meals. We were seated promptly and the waiter was knowlegeable about the wine list. The chateaubriand for two, at $102, isn't cheap, but it was the greatest steak I've ever eaten in my life. Fork tender, perfectly medium-rare, and accompanied by three little sauce boats so you can adorn (or not) as you please. My favorite was the mushroom sauce but the red wine and bearnaise were excellent too. My dad's prime rib was as big as a roof tile, and the hash brown, while completely unlike any other hash brown I have ever seen, was super-tasty. All told it was a memorable meal, and when I save up the money I would go back in a heartbeat.

wiped our plates keen, i mean clean !!
From Martini to coffee this classic steakhouse is truly what a NYC steakhouse IS ! The prime rib was absolutely out of a food magazine and the famous mutton chops had us gasping at it's size then even more so after the first bite. This is steakhouse nirvana ; sides were more than enough for the 3 of us. Mushrooms, 2 kinds of spuds and the traditional creamed spinach , all done perfectly. For starters we ordered the oysters prepared rockefeller and oskar style, both were to tradition . Dessert was a shared Bananas Foster between the 3 of us . Three grown men with large appetites left VVVery happy and we will no doubt be back ready for another wonderful steakhouse dining experience.

Go for the Mutton chop...
Keens is great. Steaks are not the best in the city but they are very very good and certainly up to par. The Mutton chop, however, is one of the reasons New York is legendary for its food. Everyone who loves steak should try the Keens Mutton chop once in their life. It doesn't hurt to have it twice...

Best prime rib in New York!
We celebrated my husband's birthday on January 2, 2009 at Keens. He is a huge fan of prime rib. I searched numerous websites before going to New York for the best prime rib in New York. Well...we found it! The best prime rib we've ever tasted in our lives! My husband ordered the King's Cut prime rib. It was huge and melted in your mouth. The ambience was nice. Candles lit on the white table clothes. We were seated in a corner booth and had a female waitress. She was excellent. We were impressed with the idea that this wasn't a chain restaurant. They have over 90,000 pipes hanging on the ceiling. It was easy to locate the restaurant. We actually walked there from Times Square. As we were leaving, the man near the door called my husband by name and wished him Happy Birthday! Now that is attention to detail. I would recommend this restaurant for prime rib to anyone! Enjoy. I will return there on my next visit to New York.

Great, as Always
Don't believe the reviewers here carping about the food at Keens. Went last night to celebrate a birthday, and couldn't have been happier with the meal or the service. The menu's classic steakhouse, done extremely well, no more, certainly no less. The portions are huge, the food's flavorful, and the service is quick without being obtrusive. There's a reason Keens has flourished for so many years they've maintained a winning formula. For what it's worth, one of the members of my party eats out 4-5 times a week in Manhattan, in restaurants ranging from the trendiest newcomers to the tried and true, and he thinks Keens is the most satisfactory of all the New York steakhouses. Go and enjoy.

Great Atmosphere, Mediocre food.
Myself and my partner recently visited Keens whilst in NY. We were reccomnded Keens from reading a number of sites. I opted for tomato, onion & blue cheese salad - my partner had lobster bisque. - Both average. We then opted for the Chataubriad - the second most expensive dish on the menu. It came out undercooked with 3 lack lustre sauces. The portion sizes in this place are huge, but I would chose quality over portion size every time. The steak was too salty and we only ate two slices of the meat. We enede with a New York Cheesecake that was again, nothing to brag about. This place does not live up to the hype, I think people only like it becuase it's olde worlde - I think it could do with a good clean, a revamp of the menu and a server that actually serves you rather than you trying to catch his/her eye all night whilst they mess about with thier buddies that also work there. Our meal was about $200 - A waste of money completely. I would never go there again or reccomend it. Not even to my worst enemy! Don't be fooled into thinking because this business is old, it equates to it being great food. Trust me, it doesn't.
