AKA Sushi (fka Kawa Sushi)

First off, in response to one of the reviews below, sushi _should_ be room temperature. And it was. I went late on a Tuesday, so the tiny dining room (would seat about twenty, I guess) was not crowded. Very simple decor (wooden bar-style furniture), quiet (I don't remember music), and dominated by the sushi bar which runs along the back side. The fish was very good, the portions generous, the service very friendly and with nice touches like a hot towel to begin, free sweets to end. The 22-oz Sapporo was a good deal, and the "sushi deluxe" plate was a filling meal at $16.00. There are daily specials, and although I imagine they're frequently the same standards -- in our case, toro nigiri for $5 each and uni for $4 each -- it's nice to think that these correspond to what was good at the market. Overall a very fair price for the West Village for a really satisfying, flavorful plate of fish. This was basically the most I've paid for sushi in the city, but it was also the best I've had. Total bill for three, with some specials and three beers, was $100.

I've always gotten really great sushi from here. Never been to the restaurant- always delivery- but it is consistently good and fresh.

I only finished half of my $20 (w/ tax and tip) sushi deluxe because the rest looked quetionable. The sushi was warm when it arrived. The fish also did not appear to be fresh at all. The seaweed on the tuna roll (which was also very warm) was also very moist making me think it was not fresh. Maybe this place is better the the roll department, but after trying them for delivery I would not recommend getting sushi, individual peices or combos. The only good thing was the salad and dressing, which was absolutely tiny.

Great neighborhood Japanese restaurant. The fish is always fresh and the price is very reasonable.
