used to be WAY better
This was the first veg place I went to in the city, since then it has only been a disappointment. The first few times I went I loved it, but this last time will definitely be the last. The women who took my delivery order was rude, condescending and down right disrespectful. The food arrived on time (but I'm only a 5 min walk away). When the delivery man came he couldn't even break a $10...I was forced to pay him in quarters b/c of this! Really? Who delivers food and doesn't have change. Then came the food....the biggest disappointment of all. Totally not what is used to be....or what it should be. This will unfortunately be my last time at Kates.

Turn up the heat for God's sake!!
I met up with a friend for dinner the other night. It was pretty cold out. After we sat down to eat I realized that it wasn't that much warmed in the restaurant. I kept my hat and scarf on during the meal and eventually put my coat on while waiting for my friend to finish her meal. The heat would periodically kick on and off...but it was definitely off more than on. Another customer complained about the temperature as well. I ate at the Kate's Joint in Bklyn and was pretty damn cold there too. Food was so-so. Dont' think I will be going back. It just isn't worth the money.

we like, decalf would be great
Kates is one of our favorite brunch places, I get to eat my vegies and chille while my partner gets his always yummy huevos rancheros. The only thing missing is organic decalf coffee. Dinner has gotten pricy, if you want organic greans instead of broccoli they charge extra and dont give much. All in all we love it.

so upset
Kates used to be my 3 day a week habit, but it's gone downhill in the last year. I ordered a veggie burger tonight for delivery. I was told it would take 25 minutes. I finally got my order and hour and a half after ordering it. Cold. My soda was tonic water instead of ginger ale. When I called, several times, to check on my order, the person from Kate's could have cared less how long overdue my order was. I really wanted Kate's to be amazing like I remembered. But it's not anymore. There are plenty of other great veggie place in the east village.

Yick.
Truly some of the most disappointing vegetarian food I've had in New York, including what was quite possibly the worst miso soup, ever. Nothing special.

After years of loving, I no longer recommend Kate's
I've loved Kate's for the past 5 years, and was devestated with my unpleasant experience there last night. As a party of four, we waitied close to an hour for our food - even though parties ahead of us were given their food first. No attempt was made to bring appetizers or drinks out first - I had to remind my server twice over half an hour just to bring out a can of beer. Our waitress was sullen and unhelpful, particularly when the food was less than the steller quality we expected from Kate's. I've ordered the TLT fo over 5 years - with good results. Last night it was soggy, bland an inedible. After we mentioned this politiely to our server, she refused to offer any remedy, stating only that she would "tell the kitchen" - but nothing was done. From a spot like Kate's I would have expected they would offer to take it off the bill, serve up a new one, or at least offer something like a side to compensate for the poor food. FInally, we paid the bill and left. At that point the manager actually followed us out the restaurant and about 15 feet from the door, loudly asking why we didn't leave a "good tip." In fact, we had left a full 20 percent - she simply hadn't taken the time to realize we had left part of the tip in cash at the table. But now, I wish we hadn't left the "standard" tip - because after I explained how dissapointed I was as a Kate's regular to have such an all around unpleasant experience, she barely even awknowledged the complaint. I've spent year convincing my friends, family and business partners to join me at Kate's Joint. I've even spent important holiday's, such as Thanksgiving, at this restaurant. But it wasn't the quality of the food last night that has turned me off forever. It was the lack of service and managerial skill that made me feel like after years of being a loyal patron, my experience didn't matter at all. I will not be returning to Kate's, and I encourage my friend - and the readers of this blog - to think twice before going.
