Tasteless food, no atmosphere, subpar and pricy wine. The place is also dark and kind of unclean.

Ok, so we're a bit lazy...

...and we live, like, a block and a half away from Kate's Joint. Never been a big fan of vegetarian quasi-meat (read: tofu), so I've avoided it. Last night, however, under the influence of a couple of vodka soda's, I said to the boyfriend, "ok, sure. Let's try these 'unchicken wings.'" Call them up, get some delivered. An hour and a half later, the food arrives. Now, completely drunk on more vodka soda's, we proceed to dig in to those (really, strangely delicious and chicken-tasting) unchicken wings, and a (tasty, but seriously with the rice, you guys? Felt like I was face down in a rice paddy.) veggie burrito. So yeah. Food's pretty good, but damn if we couldn't have walked there, eaten, and come back in the time it took for it to be delivered. Our own damn fault, I guess.

    What happened?

I use to love this place, but I will never order from them again. Every time I try to get delivery, they put me on hold for 10 min. When I do get it (after 1 hour), it's usually soggy and unappetizing. Going in there, I get stares from waitress' that probably dislike their job... and it shows! Rude, poor service. And they have often forgotten to put ingredients in my salads! Oh, and the atmosphere is scary.

    Rude Service!

I am a regular at this joint. Usually go on the week nites where the service is laid-back but polite and professional. Went during weekend brunch hours this time. The service was the rudest ever and I eat out 6 days a week! The waitress received any questions/ comments with a blank, insolent stare and terse replies, if any. She didn't check on our table once during the course and the bill was thrown down without a word or a smile. anyway, left with a bad taste in my mouth.

    No delivery?

I've ordered delivery from Kate's before and it's always arrived relatively quickly, and is pretty tasty. Except tonight they told me they don't deliver below Delancey (I am half a short block south of Delancey). My argument that I've gotten delivery before fell on deaf ears. I asked to speak to the manager to find out when/why the delivery zone had changed, and though the phone person had just told me that he'd asked the manager about the delivery zone, he then changed his story to say that there IS no manager in (on a Saturday night), and I should call back during the week. When I insisted on speaking to the manager, he pretty rudely said "We don't deliver below Delancey." Click. There's plenty of delicious vegetarian delivery in this city. I won't be wasting my time with this joint again.

    Bland and Boring, Poor Service

It's such a shame. Kate's Corner (Old Name) used to be so different and cool. The waiters were so relaxed yet service was quick and to the point. Now, Kates' tastes different. The Ginger Tofu was blah, Shepherds Pie brown and bland, The Sloppy Josephine tasted JUST like the Shephards Pie and The Fake Steak was overdressed and dull tasting. We asked to have the music turned down twice, yet the waitress obviously didn't since the screaming high-voiced female did not waver in her persuit to make your ears bleed. We waited 30 minutes for menus, 20 minutes to be informed our waitress would take our orders soon, and 10 minutes to actually have our orders taken. And that was on an empty night. Don't waist your time. If you're looking for an awesome alternative, go to Dojo.

For some reason I ignored the other negative reviews and decided to give this place a try, lured in by the seemingly tasty vegetarian menu. My evening began by burning my arm on a scaldingly hot pipe right next to our table, marked only with a post it saying "hot". It took them 20 minutes to come to the table, where they proceded to be out of everything we wanted. The cutlets I got were so tasty on the outside, and so tofu bland on the inside! The shepherds pie was equally disappointing. It took our server forever to do everything, and to top it all off- we were made to suffer a Van Morrison album in it's entirety twice!
