This place rules--the perfect dark, laid-back diner atmosphere, with every kind of junk food you could possibly crave and lots of booze available and bottomless cups of coffee, but it's also all vegetarian. Yum. We've been twice and the service was great.

If you're a vegetarian coming to NYC for a visit or a local looking for a place where you can actually choose something from the menu instead of having that one pasta dish, KATE'S is your place. I've spent more than my fair share of time there and much of that has been just looking over the menu and specials to decide what great food I'll have that day/night. If I could be both Siskel and Ebert, I'd give it "TWO THUMBS WAY UP!"

I love to eat at Kate's! It is not easy to find a hearty vegan meal to clog your arteries but Kate's gets the job done! My favorites are the Buffalo Wings (with a side of non-dairy sour cream to dip it in because it's kind of spicy), Unturkey Club, and Fettuccine Forrester!!! Also their breaksfast is great - Heuvos Rancheros yummm!!! The waiters are usually super friendly too - great place!!

OK,...first off....when you go,...prepare to wait, and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait...HOWEVER, once you get your food, you are in for a treat! This place is excellent! Yummy Vegan Buffalo wings! The atmosphere is groovy!

If you are looking for vegan/vegetarian food that mimicks the old diner food you used to have as a meat-eater, then this is the restaurant for you. There is ony one other restaurant in NYC that is similar, and that's Veg City Diner. Both are good, but for our money, we'd choose Kate's Joint. The Mock Buffalo Wings are out of this world - the best we've ever had, anywhere! The McKate is like what a burger from McDonald's would be in an ideal vegetarain world - all organic, no meat, vegan cheese, if desired. If you are looking for a raw foods restaurant, this might not be the place for you, but if you want food you can sink your teeth into, this place rocks. If you want to see how great being vegetarian can be and how how satisfied you can feel after eating yummy vegetarian food, go here. The service is a tiny bit slow and the atmosphere is a little East Village grunge crowd (read: casual dress), but it's a relaxing and the food is worth the trip and the wait.
