Kate's is my favorite restaurant in the city. Sure it's got the east village flare to it, the rest rooms leave something to be desired, and the staff's required to have at least 5 piercings visable to the customers but part of what's great about it. You don't have to worry about turning around a breaking something or dropping something on the floor. It's relaxing. Certainly not the place for a high end date though. The food is amazing and like a lot of others said not your typical "healthy" vegetarian food. You get big thick burgers and fries. Breaded and Fried UnChik'n Cutlets and they are all GREAT. They'll fill you up in the way a dinky "healthy" salad won't. Plus in the end the fake burger at Kate is MUCH healthy for you than that McDonald's and comes on a whole wheat bun. Their Caeser salad is also one of the BEST in the city. Also check out their amazing desserts. Def. worth checking out.

The buffalo unchicken wings are amazing. the atmosphere reminds me of a diner in a small town. the food is super fattening and unhealthy, but it so darn good. :)

This is the kind of veggie place where the pastas and salads and bad but the super-fried fake meats taste great. I'd go there more often, if it didn't cost so much.

Kate's buffalo wings are the best i've ever had. both times i ate there they were the first thing we ordered. the first time i ate there i had the tofu scramble with spinach. at $2 it was sized to be a side dish, i believe, but i gladly would have paid $6 or so for it to be a full sized portion. it was amazing. the side salad is also very good. the second time i ate there i had the whole wheat vegan pancakes, which are also insanely good. if i didn't live in california i'd eat at kate's all the time. it ranks in my top 3 vegan restaurants, between real food daily (la) and kung food (san diego).

Kate's Joint is like your dirty hippy friend's kitchen. She'll whip you up something decent and serve it on the dishes she sort of washed. Great concept, Kate. I just wish you did it better. Those college dirty hippy days are past for most of us.

Very interesting place, some stuff very good other stuff bad. The turkey club and hot dogs are great. The shrimp appetizer is lacking as are most of the other main dishes we've had. The deserts are excellent especially the banana tiramisu and the cheesecake. I don't know why they can't make their "bad" food better like their other great selections.

I've only eaten here once so far, and all the food my wife & I had was good. The atmosphere is pretty funky, and the wait staff seems a little distracted, but the music was great and all in all it was a good experience. If I lived closer, I would go more often.
