I love Kate's Joint! I have been living in the East Village for about five years now and it is one of my favorite neighborhood Bars. I first discovered Kate's because they always had great music playing/the best DJ's. I then realized they only served vegetarian bar food. I have been a vegetarian for 19 years and good vegetarian bar food is hard to come by. I quickly became obsessed with their McKate. It is a vegetarian Big Mac and it is so delicious and satisfying when you need that bad for you (But actually not that bad because it is vegetarian) burger. I recently have moved on and become obsessed with their "turkey" club with "fakin." I consider myself to be a french fry connoisseur and at Kate's they do fries right. They are always cooked to perfection and are fresh cut. I suggest the disco fries. So to sum it up if you are looking for great vegetarian bar food or a great East Village hole in the wall bar Kate's Joint is the Joint!

Oh boy, it's hard to get an off soup or salad, but..... the salad leaves were fine, the dressing was not even liquiid, it was like a carrot paste that someone forgot to add the ginger and oil to. the soup was like a sugary sweet onion marmalade. Then the popcorn shrimp, oh my, i actually squeezed the lemon wedge onto these tiny balls, yes, size of a popped corn, breaded tofu, the sauce was so plain and simple mustard and katsup, with a touch of relish, and maybe a touch of miracle whip mayo...i am not feeling so great :0

If a burger could cry, this burger would be hysterical, drooling, and puffy eyed. It was not good. Neither were the mashed potatoes. I think they may have even come from a mix. So, I ordered delivery and was immediately taken aback by the weight of the bag when it was handed to me - it was so light! I love a good veggie burger - having tried Quantam Leap's and the Organic Grill's - both of which are really good, big, substantial burgers - I was totally taken aback when i opened the box and found what was the littlest burger I've ever seen. The patty was maybe... 1/4 of an inch thick? Seriously I'm not exaggerating. I requested onions and there were literally just a handful of small chopped up pieces of onion stuck to the bun, and a single piece of lettuce. I hate to say it but it paled in comparison to even a kids burger at a fast food restaurant. The kicker was that my bill came to $15. Really? Finally, I ordered mashed potatoes as a side and they gave me a mini to-go coffee cup full, half of which was filled with gravy - the menu didn't say gravy was even an option so how would I know to request no gravy? Bleh.

Weekend brunch at Kate's is excellent. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito w/tofu scramble, and I had the vegan french toast, and both were super yummy (when ordering tofu scramble, make sure it is in a burrito or on a bagel; too dry on the side). Service was super prompt, and the atmosphere is low key and Village-relaxed. On par with best vegan brunches in the city.

low key atmosphere and good veg food. Nothing here is crazy or creative or elaborate. What you get is filling as hell mac n cheese, tofu steaks and great comfort foods, like nachos and cheese fries. Fast food veganized, how can one not be happy?

They pretty much only deliver from 6pm-11pm, this is a small window. They also wont deliver in rain or any other sort of inclement weather. This is annoying. Who manages the place? It is kinda out of control, however the food is amazing, from the garlic fries to the nachos to the wingless buffalo burger, even the "vegan supreme" dish is fantastic. Their pastas, too! And dont get me started on the McKate! Thank goodness they finally got vegan cheese (lactose-free cheese seemed like a waste of their money for many years). Drinks are cheap and especially on weekends...

At first I was like "veggie place . . . lame" Turns out this bar has sickkk drink specials. You can get a beer (PBR) and a shot (house wiskey or vodka) for only $5.00. If you've never tried tofu wings, like hadn;t till this place, give it a shot. Sause makes it taste a lot like chicken. Good stuff!!
