Real bangali food in town!
this place has actual bangali food. I was looking for something that is NOT indian in the city (since the ones that I know of are in Jamaica, Queens) and was craving for something like home-cooked bangali food, not any indian chicken tikka or saag paneer and so glad I found this place! Not the ideal place to sit and eat, but great for take out. The server is very nice and friendly and even gave me a free dessert with my order :)

Awesome bengali food
This definitely is not a place where you would come for the decor. But the food is really tasty - try the dal and chicken curry.

A Great Place For Lunch
This is a great place for authentic Bengali food. The decor personifies the word "Basic" but large number of male cab drivers, many eating with their hands, and the Bengali Satellite T.V.-transport you to another location in the world. I have always found the vegetables to be very good. They are unadored and plain but tasty. There is an egg curry dish that is great. They do microwave the food before they give it to you-but don't let this scare you away. They do use a heavy spice in some foods so make sure you either floss or use breath mints when you leave.

Not rec'd
Since the review here sounded fabulous, I thought I would give it a try. Big Mistake. I should have known when they told me there is no menu. They just told me what they had that day. I ordered chicken curry and rice. They had me waiting for 5 min while they microwave the curry and rice. Half of the curry was OIL. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Chicken tasted like it was old. Rice was so dry.

Perfect for what it is
Reminds me of eating at warungs (food stands) in Indonesia. Though the food here is Bengali, the concept is the same. Walk up to the glass, point to what you want, and take a seat in the cafeteria environment and enjoy your awesome, inexpensive meal. Look, if you think the only way to eat is in a flashy interior with overrated food, waiter with bat attitudes andjacked-up prices...this isn't for you. But if you can get down with barebones essentials, where the ONLY thing you're paying for is the food, this is the spot!

Don't Tell Anyone!
Shilpi-Kasturbi is my favorite! Real Bengali food. (After I brought some home for a Calcutta musician staying at my house he was delighted and asks for it whenever he visits). The menu changes but is always worth trying although Americans might beware of the small bony fish or the bitter melon curry which is BITTER. You probably don't want to eat here. Bangla Deshi cabbies will sit down at your table. It is a real "dabba"--a very funky, cheap place with great food. Not the "same old chicken curry" like the other Indian restaurants!

Home Made food for East Indians
Not the greatest place to sit and eat, it's full of New York Cabbies..but for all those who want a 150% cheaper alternative upscale 'Babu' for pure Bengali food, and get some bang for buck, get a take-out from here. I recommend the Bengalli Thali!
