It' Greek to me too!
I have ordered delivery two times now, really late. 11.30 pm. I order the Moussaka, because I love Moussaka and it reminds me of my mother who is in a different country. She makes the absolute best Moussaka, but Karavas makes a decent one too. The guy on the phone is so sweet, he has a thick accent but we talk slowly and then it works out perfectly. I have never been in the resturant, only ordered delivery.

Unhappy longtime customer
First of all I have to say that I have been going to Karavas for over 8 years on a regular basis and I just LOVE the food. The waitress' before were really nice and attended the customers very well. My last visit did not go so well, first I waited about 10 minutes to get a menu, after another 10 minutes of waiting for her to take my order I decide to get up and give the cook my order myself suddenly she shows up. THEN, after we are done we are waiting PATIENTLY for our check I pay and just as I am about to leave she tells me that "the service is not included!!" How dare she? I almost died! Yes, I DID NOT tip her. You tip for good service which I did not get. I was so shocked and upset because of this waitress I will not be going back to Karavas for a LONG LONG time...maybe never.

Why do they claim to have delivery srvc?
OK, the food here is great, and I have managed to get delivery twice. However, I have not gotten delivery here at least a dozen times! Either the phone rings forever or they always have a reason for not being able to deliver. Tonight we call for a delivery, and the guy on the other end just says "No". No reason, no sorry, just "No" over and over. Love the food, but I'm finding another spot.

They only deliver when they feel like it
the food is great, but they won't deliver if they don't feel like it, using the same excuse, "oh, my bicycle is broken" each time (after learning that your address is more than 2-3 blocks away from their restaurant).

THE BEST!
...being a native New Yorker, one tends to take most places and things in the city for granted.... However, Karavas is NOT a place to be taken for granted. It's my absolute FAVORITE little "hole in the wall" place in all of the city. In all the years I have been going here, I don't think the wait staff has ever changed. Granted, sometimes service is a little slow, but for the most part, the ladies are VERY attentive and extremely helpful on those days where you just can't figure out what you're in the mood for. The food is always so fresh, regardless of what you're having. The beef/chicken gyro/souvlaki platter with salad is my favorite meal here. The spinach pie is excellent too! EVERYTHING is excellent! The feta cheese is perfect. The pita is perfect. Everything is pure perfection. The atmosphere, well, there really isn't a fabulous ambiance to the place. But it serves its purpose. There are great big windows that are perfect for people watching though.... The other side of the restaurant is a dimly lit bar with music playing. In order to access the bathroom, you must tell the bartender, who will then buzz the door. Once you open the door, you will go down the stairs that are painted blue and white, with a grecian theme. The ladies room was very clean! All in all, I give Karavas 2 thumbs (and 2 toes) up!!! LOL! :) I love it!

Its Greek to me
This place is so tasty and fresh. I love the cold mezze plates. The pita bread is warm and homemade, a mixture of regular and whole wheat. This place is what you need on a hot nyc night. Atmosphere is different, but clean. Don’t bother with the bathroom, you will never find it.
