High quality fish
I had the regular sashimi dinner and was happy with all the fish. Expertly cut, proper temperature, proper size, just plain good. It was a bit above Hasaki and much better than 90% of what's available in the East Village. The only similar local place with better sushi is Jewel Bako. You don't have to go for the special omakase to get great fish. Fresh wasabi is available at $9. Most places either don't have it or include it with the meal. I guess it helps Kanoyama reduce their food costs and menu prices but it means that for me the sashimi is not really $19 but $28. I was still happy with the value for 10 very good pieces. I liked the red miso soup although I prefer Hasaki's version. I went late on a weeknight and was seated promptly and given attentive service and not packed in tight with other diners. It gets hectic at the peak weekend hours like every good restaurant in the neighborhood so plan around it if it bothers you. I liked the space. Light levels are low. The room is well divided into smaller spaces by movable partitions.

Poor delivery
I hate writing reviews. This is the first I have actually written. But I just had to on account of my takeout experience... $15 for a king crab roll! That is ACTUALLY a california roll. And DO NOT order the gomae ae. I should have stuck to my normal sushi takeout.

Worst service and rip off
Six of us went for my friends son's birthday and he ordered the large special platter of sushi. After waiting in line for 45 minutes to be seated we then had to wait a long time to order. The salad was great and the sake was warm and delicious. However when they served the edemame it wasn't even enough for one person, maybe about 16 pieces. They brought out one cooked order first the salmon teriyaki in which they give a small 1/2 piece of salmon steak. Then once he finished they then finally brought out 4 more of our dinners. Mind you they were only simple sushi rolls. An hour and 1/2 later the birthday boy had still not recieved his sushi. The quality was good but it was so small and expensive that there are to many good places in NY to go back here.

great fish, terrible service
this place has the best fish, if you're able to deal with the wait staff. the servers can never seem to quite get it right. whether it's refilling your glass (even when you ask them to) or remembering to bring your food out, the service always leaves you wanting more. the food keeps you coming back though.

want more
after spending $400- (not kidding) twice- i want more personal service. You would think that after we order 300 dollars worth of sushi they would be more service minded? Not so, so save your money for a more upscale place :(
