    Needs Improvement

This past Friday April 19, 2013, I along with 5 friends went to enjoy what we expected to be an exquisite Friday Night at “Kallaloo Restaurant” Located at 215-52 Jamaica Ave in Queens. Per their ad at “Rockmaster.com”, on Friday nights as of 8:00 pm for only $20, one can enjoy an “all-you-can-eat” buffet of Haitian cuisines and seafood in a friendly atmosphere under the sound of “Creole beats” by Haitian Troubadour” group. You may even bring your own bottle, they say. A part from as exciting as it sounds, a view of the place as set and shown in the ad makes it as well enticing and worthy of a visit. Well, let me just say: “All that glitters is not gold.” What went wrong? Many things at many levels. 1st: the cost is not $20 as advertised, but $25 which is not brought to your attention until you get your bill, not before. That’s dishonest, upsetting, and bad for business. 2nd: The food are not kept warm or replaced as people consume them. If you get there around 10 O’clock like we did, the food will be cold and nothing but left-overs, and placed in a dark unlit corner where you can’t see well, not like shown in the ad on a well-organized shelves. 3rd: The place is not as spacious as shown in the ad and is way too crowded with tables set too close to each other where if the person of the next table is to get up, his/her buttocks will be all over your plate and face, not to mention if coughing is taking place. You must shrink yourself to let them through. That’s not healthy at all. 4th: If You bring your own bottle as they allow, you’ll be charged a $5 corking fee even if they didn't open the bottle for you. They claim they provided you with glasses. The same glasses they provide free of charge for water. That’s quite cheap! 5th: It’s a buffet, meaning it’s self-served. No one serves you nothing, except for the glasses and a jar of water they place on your table as you arrive, and for which they charge you $5 anyway if you bring your own drink. Yet your bill includes $7 gratuity per person for service; which service? That is absurd and fraudulent. 6th: The $25 you pay for “All-you-can-eat” does not include “the least-you-can-drink”; No even soda. And no dessert of any kind either. 7th: 12 o’clock the band wraps up, all lights turned on, tables are being undressed, and that spells “get the F out, when it was supposed to last till dawn. 8th: Thank you, “Kalallou Restaurant”, you are one of a kind. See you never again.
