a delicious dive
The food is really good, and the staff is friendly. Never eaten in, as I live in the neighborhood and it is a steamtable kind of place, but the delivery is reliable.

Truly disappointing
Had lunch here yesterday. This 'restaurant' is set up like an army mess hall, an ugly cramped place with a communal eating atmosphere. My lunch "special" was slopped on to a styrofoam plate. The serving consisted of a huge pile of rice, a microscopic portion of lamb vindaloo & a tiny portion of chana masala. Oh,and a big hunk of bread. This along with a can of soda ran me around $13. Not a very good deal. The food was okay but the pre-packaged plastic knife and fork would be better suited to a McDonalds or Wendy's. No greeting from the server, no "hello", "how are you, what would you like" just "NEXT !" Definately the worst dining experience I have had in NY for some time. Also, you are expected to take your styrofoam plate & plastic knife and fork and place it in an overflowing garbage can. Just like in McDonalds and all the other fast food restaurants.

OK, not great
I prefer Joy to the other Indian take outs in the area but still find it lacking. Everything seems really overcooked even after making an allowance for it being a steam table place. And too salty.

Great Food, Great Value for Money!
Joy is a wonnderful place for food, always. Since I came to USA, I missed Indian food. Joy returned me that flavor. Thanks, Joy! Everyday I go there at least once if not twice. Staffs are friendly and the owner is such a nice genlteman!

Great food
Total hole in the wall (though there are some tables), but the food is outstanding! I'd rather eat there than pricey Darbar two doors down. Staff is really nice, too.

Best Indian food in midtown
I've been going to this restaurant since it was located on 28th street and Lexington. Different location but same great food and now its specialty is take-out. This is the only restaurant that serves Indian food that I actually CRAVE at least once or twice a month. They are a great value ($9 for lunch platter) and I have NEVER ever felt sick after eating here. Can't say that about 95% of the Indian restaurants in Manhattan. Try it, you won't regret it!

Best Indian in NYC
Love this place, love the yellow dal, goat curry, mushroom curry, fish curry, biryani... it's all just yummy. And the people are so very nice! I live in Washington DC and make it a point to go to Joy every time I visit NYC. And I pack some food to go back with me to DC.
