I think the food at Josie's is great and very reasonably priced. It's hard to find so many organic and vegetarian options for so little money. I was surprised to read that many people had experience rude service because our waitress was very attentive and patient. She very pleasantly put up with our indecisiveness, coming to check on us 3 times in 20 minutes! Our appetizer, entrees, and check all came quickly. I would agree that it was a bit loud inside the restaurant, but my main complaint is its cramped quarters. I actually felt embarassed squeezing by the adjacent table when I had to use the ladies room (there's really no graceful way to do it there). The tables are so close together that there is barely any leg room or space to hang your coat on your chair. Other than that, I would recommend Josie's to any vegetarian or health conscious eater on the Upper West Side!

After reading all the reviews about so-so service, I was a little worried when my out of town guest wanted to eat here. Turns out I could not have been more pleasantly surprised! Our waiter was excellent--very attentive, thorough and not at all snobby. While health food isn't totally my thing, I can't say I've had "good for you" taste much better. The spicy black bean dumplings and penne with fresh tomato sauce and turkey meatballs were both fantastic. My friend had the seared tuna burger and cleaned her plate! I think the one downside was how loud it was, but that's only because it was so busy (nearly every table full) the entire time.

I really used to like this place, but the past few times I have been there the food has been pretty lousy and the staff has been so rude. At brunch a few weeks ago it took them 1/2 hour to bring coffee and they never came around with a refill after asking them. their omlettes were very bland for the price you're paying. The time before that, our waiter had a major attitude and actually roles his eyes when we requested to have the salad dressing on the side. I will not be coming back to this place again. These "healthy" food snobs have lost my business. Btw, they're stingy with their bread.

I was seduced by the great reviews and the cutesy vegetable letters in the sign. I was here with my girlfriend and we ordered several appetizers, sides and dishes, but, well, they all pretty much tasted like medallions of protein paste. Still like Zen Palate better.

I have never been disappointed with a meal at Josie's and I'm a regular, living only a few blocks away. The food is scrumptious and the service very pleasant. I just wish there were some way to deaden the sound level. Wouldn't recommend it for a romantic dinner. Still, the reason it's loud is the same reason it's popular--good food will attract a crowd!

I have never liked the idea of going to "health food" type restaurants, but this one is grrrreat! There are enough "normal" sounding foods on the menu that one who does not like the sound of meatless or organic foods, will feel at ease. The preperation of the food includes healthier products naturally, however one can not tell the difference once they are eating. The food does not have less taste or anything. Food is food, and if all healthy food tasted as yummy as Josie prepares it, then American's would be in much better shape!
