Passion Pavlova is to die for

I went here last night for my anniversary. It was one of the best dinners I've ever had in my decade in NYC. Granted, I would not recommend spending this much on dinner every night, as it's a little pricey, but so worth it. I haven't been able to get the passion pavlova off my mind. If you go, do yourself a favor and order it! Very polite waitress, very elegant and interesting decor. I just hope it doesn't get too crowded there!

    Outstanding Food, Service & Decor

We have eaten in the best restaurants and this one definitely is one of the best. The food quality was wonderful. I like the way the chef combines his flavors and mixes cool and warm dishes. Very, very good. One negative was the wine list was not extensive.

Pavlova amazing, the rest completely mediocre.

I would absolutely go back for the Passion Pavlova. It was absolutely perfect. Not so sure about the rest. The ravioli were uncomfortably buttery and the warm asparagus salad was a weird combo of flavors. The entire meal, however, was upstaged by the incredibly uncomfortable banquette that I was seated on. Tables were combined in a way so that I sat directly on top of a very hard, unnerving and uncomfortable seam. I either had to deal with it or sit so far off to the side that I made my dinner companions uncomfortable. This is really unforgivable. I was also irritatated that I got all the way to the table with all of my bulky coats, sat down, tried to find a way to elegantly drape it over a chair without the server knocking it off as she passed, and THEN I was offered a coat check after I was already settled. I was also upset to find out that after calling ahead and specifically asking about the vegetarian options, there were no vegetarian entrees on the menu, nor would they create a chef's choice or an entree-sized portion of the veggie friendly appetizer (one choice).

    Unappetizing Service!

My brother and I waited 30 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation, but since our hostess apologized we were more than willing to overlook it. Our waitress, however, was unapologetically rude and careless, and did not even look it us for most of the time. We were not given menus for 10 minutes after we had been seated, and the bread came much later. After she finally took our order, we waited. And waited. And waited. When a couple that was seated after us received their second course we decided to say something. The waitress passed by 4 times before she realized we were trying to get her attention. She did not apologize and even had the audacity to say that my brother's 3 piece ravioli appetizer was still cooking! Meanwhile the couple's second course included a hangar steak! A complete insult. I should add that my appetizer was tuna tartare, not much cooking to be done there. When we were ready to leave without getting our meal the manager apologized and asked us to stay, offering to pick up our tab. The meals did come soon after that, and it was pretty good, but my appetite had been completely ruined. There are definitely better places out there that deserve your business, so look around!

    Merveilleux

We think that in order to enjoy this town house restaurant, you have to hit it at the the right time. The tables are close together (but we have seen worse) and so probably at full capacity, it might not be so comfortable/cozy. With that said, we did a restaurant week dinner here. Our reservations were at 6:30, and we sat upstairs in the backroom, at an end table. ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS! Fans of art/architecture/interior design will love this space! Its as if you are dining in someone's personal home. You feel as if you are having an "insiders view" of someone's private life. The food is quite good too (although my dinner companion thought hers to be a bit salty). The resto has a standard Prix Fixe menu of which I chose. I started with the mushroom ravioli which was excellent and it was followed by the salmonagain wonderful! For dessert I had the warm chocolate cake with ice cream. Just the right sweetness for me. My companion ordered off the menu. She had the Butternut Squash Soup Tuna Roll: and Warm Asparagus salad. The cost of her choices equaled that of the Prix Fixe menu. For dessert she had some type of Rasberry torte. Outside of her reservation that some things were a "bit salty" we felt that it was a wonderful/relaxing evening! The service was above average,(and that should be expected from all establishments), without feeling robotic at all. We highly recommend this restojust make sure you hit it at the right time. It can be quite romantic and intimate.

    Simple

The space was simply decorated and would have probably been great if it weren't for restaurant week. The tuna rolls were delicious and my hanger steak with asparagus was so tender is practically melted in my mouth! We also ordered the flavored sodas which were pretty interesting. The ginger soda has a strong ginger taste and the passion chili soda definitely has a kick to it. No complaints, we were very satisfied with the meal.

    Michelin Star???

My husband and I arrived early for Restaurant week on a very hot evening, and there was nowhere to stand and waitthe bar had no chairs, so we were forced to take a walk in 90 degree heat while our table was being prepared. Our server was very pleasant and informed. We ordered from the regular menufor appetizersthe crab cake was fried and not made of lump crabmeat (but had a delicious lemon sauce), the shrimp salad was dull. The duck in my main dish was cooked perfectly, but the pastry was filled with something with entirely too much pepper. My husband's lamb was delicious. Our wine was nice and service was very attentive, but we were practically sitting on the laps of other guests because the tables were so closeprivate converstations were impossible at any volume. Probably a good place for lunch with a friend, but not for a romantic night with the hubby. Either way, the stars seem to come much more easily here in New York than they do in Europe...OVERALLa GOOD but not wonderful restaurant for our $215.00 bill.
