I strongly agree with the below review. John's food is very fresh, and is not swimming in grease or sickly sweet sauce. I recommend the mixed dumpling appetizer, as well as the General Tso's Chicken, which although very spicy, is also very tender and has a wonderful taste overall. For a cold winter's day, try the crab and tofu soup!

My nephew wanted to eat in Times Square and he wanted Chinese. I was expecting mediocrity, but John's has a way with the standard dishes that impresses--no rancid greasiness, no tasteless sauces, freshest ingredients and fine cooking. It's cramped and noisy, and service is harried but competent. If you want good grub at a theatre district pace, it's the place.
