Great Calamari!
I've had their Linguine alla Calamari about 5 times recently (1/04/09 latest), and the calamari has consistently been among the best I've ever had (I'm a big fan of the stuff!). On 1/04/09 I had the Eggplant Parm (the calamari wan't ready, LOL!), and it was outstanding! Can't speak for the pizza, though! The wait-staff veers from "normal" (attentive, helpful) to "can't be bothered".

poor delivery experience
Recently had the worst delivery experience of my 4 years in NYC. Apparently they took down my address wrong, but rather than call me to get the correct one, they just decided to scrap the delivery altogether. After I called 90 minutes later, they said they would bring me a new pizza right away, but couldn't give a discount. When my pizza arrived 30 minutes later, it was not a new pizzait was the original pizza they had made for me, as cold and gummy as you would expect it to be 2 hours after it was made. I'll never order delivery again from John's.

FABULOUS!
I love John's! It has to be the best pizza I've ever had. We ordered a Lg and realized after we started eating that we were gonna need another between 4 woman. I can't wait to go back soon.

Good and cheap.
My family and I went to John's for lunch before we left NYC. After four days of high prices it was nice to see a main course for under $10!!! A large pizza fed all six of us for under $25. The pizza was good and much better than most. All pizzas have thin, crispy crust and all toppings are extra. The matire'D was kind and considerate, even when he had to ask us to move tables when he realized that he had overseated one waiter. The waitress was good but not the best. This John's is in an old church and the restaurant felt hollow. Including sodas and appetizer, six people ate for $65. Watch out for the 20% tip that is included for large parties! I woud go back to John's, but it is not the best pizza in the world.

Memory was fonder
Just returned from a trip to New York. I wanted to make a return visit to John's. I took a group of us (11 total) to enjoy pizza. The pizza did not dissappoint us however the service did. The waitor seemed distracted and never looked at you while you placed your order. I had to ask for silverware multiple times. I'll probably visit another pizzeria next time.

Best pizza
Came here with seven people from Kansas. We were seated quickly, but it was about 10 p.m. on a Saturday night. Even then, the place was jammed. Our waiter was good, but nothing to write home about. During the busier hours, I could easily see service taking a dive. We were seated right next to the coal oventhere are two of them right in the main dining room. We really enjoyed watching these pizza's get made. No refills on the soda, so get pitchers. We ordered two pizzas, one with extra chees, the other half spinach and half breaded eggplant. All of them were outstanding. This is NY pizza as it should be. Total price with tip: $85, and everyone was stuffed. Not too shabby.

Great Pizza, Loud Setting
I wanted to take relatives from the UK for pizza. The concierge at their hotel recommended this place. I've had 100's of slices of NY pizza in my life. Their pizza was among the best I've had, and my relatives were impressed. We were not impressed, however, at the wait to get in nor the wait for the pizza once we ordered it. It was also rather noisy. If you can stand the wait and don't mind the noise, give it a try.
