Excellent Food/OK drink
Great chili, recommended as a starter. Awesome burgers. Chicken salad very good as well. Could use an upgrade of their beer glasses to pints instead of the 8.5 oz minis they use.

Poor service!
Went to dinner here on the 4th of July. After being yelled at by the waitress because only 5 people of our party of 6 were seated (we were never told by the host that only complete parties were seated, and HE sat us with 5 people), she demanded that we order our entrees after our salads were delivered. I have never experienced such rude service at a restaurant in the city. After asking for the manager to complain, the host attempted to play off that he was the manager and yell at us as well because our entire party was not seated. I will never return to JG Melon's .

Pretty Delish
Pretty damn delicious burger. Worth the trek to the upper east side. I'm not a chili person but after trying my boyfriend's chili I now might be - it was really very very good. Clientele is extremely yuppie / preppyish so I felt strangely under-dressed in an environment that seemed to have a divey pub feel to it. Value is pretty decent for NY. Only thing I wish they would expand on is their beer selection.

Best Burger Joint in Upper East
Highly recommend the cottage fries, the bowl of chili, and of course the burger. The price may be a lil much, but it's well worth it. Good atmosphere and service- a great spot for lunch.

Simply the best
JG Melon is simply the best spot in Manhattan, the burgers are the embodiment of what a good burger should be,. They stick to the fundamentals, because the fundamentals are what make a good burger great. The atmosphere is a clasic example of the Upper East Side, with its turn of the century charm and limited space it remains appealing to only those it wishes to welcome.

Not #1, but top 5.
JGM's does not have the best burger in town. I think you have to reserve that title for Corner Bistro or the Burger Joint. That said, this place has a damn good burger. It's not a good value for the money, but it's a damn good burger and hands down the best on the upper east (though there's not much competition), They have a good green salad too which is a nice way to start and important given the fact that the burger won't fill you on its own. The bartenders stink. I have great respect for anyone that works hard and goes to work every day, but these guys act like they're saving lives as cardivascular surgeons at Lenox Hill Hospital and not sliding 7.5 ounce beers across the bar. Come on guys, lose the attitude.
