    pretty good

Went here for lunch-- friend and I got here around 12:30 and were able to get a seat right away. I ordered the portabello mushroom wrap, which was delicious. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and the red pepper aoli they use is awesome. I decided to try the cucumbers instead of the fries (since you can get fries anywhere) and whoa-- they tasted like they are marinated in pure vinegar. My eyes literally started to water. Will not be ordering those again! Now I know better, but I will be going back because the wrap was so good. Cute place, nice atmosphere. Service was average.

    Love Jerry's

Looking at the other reviews I had to chime in. I like how laid back Jerrys is, it restores a vibe long lost in Tribeca. Do I wish the service was better sometimes? Absolutely. Is it bad enough to make me not go there? No a chance. I love the spice, salt and peanut oil fries that took them months to recreate so they'd be as good as the Soho version, and most of all, love that Jerry is still there. When would you see that 20 years later? I also love that even though they picked the block that everyone said wouldn't work, that people came anyway. In droves. They are one of the only places in the hood where it still has a cool vibe and yet your kids can come too and be just as happy - without the place feeling like a 'family' restaurant. The food is more than likeable. Its fresh and well cooked. And a decent valuie I might add. I order in to my office when I can't get there and they deliver in like, two minutes. Love Jerry's.

    ..for balance

to be fair I would like to add if the re-steak were less fatty that reduction sauce they sent on the side would have rok'd it & before the menu change I enjoyed several lovely meals in house.

    mis-steak

I really want to like this place. That said: I think the chef is SO HEAVY HANDED w/SPICE> SALT AND PEPPER I now find most of the food inedible. I ordered steak and asked it NOT TO BE au poivre (pepper crusted) I also did not want the pepper sauce. I asked for plain grilled YUM. Unfortunately my mis-steak came totally pepper encrusted.. they replaced it (1/2 hr later). Again unfortunately for me the 2nd steak was almost all fat. Not worth the $30 or the frustration.. spinach was like sea water. :(

    Good

There is a severe lack of decent places around Fed Plaza, so Jerry's is a welcome addition. The service was friendly when I went and the decor is far nicer than an average dinner, bright and pleasant. The food was good, not great, and there is a wide variety of items. The prices are simply a bit too high, but given the area/clientele they can prob get it. With tax and 15% tip a fair sized turkey club, fries and iced tea cost me close to $20. That is a bit out of the realm or normality for a casual lunch, at least for me.

    Subpar Service

My boyfriend and I went here for a quick brunch on a Sunday afternoon. We were surprised at the cute decorations and full bar. The restaurant was half full, with four different servers on duty. I used to work at a restaurant and understand having a bad day but this place really sucked. We sat there for at least ten minutes before anyone helped us. Our waiter was very unfriendly and brisk. He gave us our drinks, took our order and did not come back until our meals arrived, 45 minutes later. It literally took that long. The people across from us complained about their meals twice, as they had been waiting over an hour. There was no apology for the wait. Our waiter dropped our food and did not come back until we had to flag him down to get our check. No drink refills, no acknowledgement that they'd forgotten my toast. Food was very good but service really ruined the meal. There are too many good places in NYC to waste your money on a place that you have to beg the waiter to help you.

A Great Local Spot for NYU Students Living in the Lafayette Dorm

I recently moved into my NYU dorm on Lafayette and White Street and stumbled into Jerry’s Café while looking for a good place to have dinner. Living in this area, I have found it very hard to find a good place to that is close and serves quality food for my student budget. When I arrived at Jerry’s Café, I immediately felt comfortable in their relaxed atmosphere and couldn’t believe how close it was to my dorm. The truffle fries were the best I have ever had! Their Fontina pizza was also amazing! It also has truffle oil as well as mushrooms and was really delicious! I had such a fantastic meal at such a great price and am really looking forward to becoming a regular! This restaurant is truly a MUST not only for all NYU students living in the Lafayette dorm but also everyone in NYC!
