I was very excited to go to JBird, as the UES is a desert of "trendy" spots. As I saw on several other reviews, service was poor. They sat us 45 minutes late for our reservation. Then we waited another 45 for service of any kind, and only placed drink and food orders through the host when we flagged him down several times. We never saw our waiter or waitress, and never received cutlery or napkins. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to come once we'd placed the order, and another 45 for our food to come. The cocktails are very good and the food was decent, but after that service experience we'll never go back. We politely let the host know that we'd never seen our waiter, and he shrugged and said the staffing was messed up that night. Well, ok, but most restaurants would at least comp drinks after such a poor showing. Too bad, because the UES really does need a place like this done well.

Excellent!
I went with a friend not expecting too much but I was more than pleasantly surprised with the food and drinks. We ordered the bronzino and pork sliders and both were excellent! I would highly recommend those two dishes. The drinks were delicious as well, although a little pricey. Overall a great experience. I will definitely be going back there.

Really wanted to like this place...
The space has been empty for years and I was excited to have a new trendy place in the neighborhood. The high top tables and the set up are adorable and create upscale atmosphere. Too bad everything else fails miserably. The menu is schizophrenic...can't decide if it is bar food or 5 star cuisine. And beyond that, everything we ordered was almost inedible. I realize I'm picky, but I was with 3 other eaters and for them to complain, it had to be BAD. The drinks are good but small and way over priced. And the staff needs an attitude adjustment. The amount of inappropriate comments coming from the servers mouth was scary and everything from getting water or ordering more drinks was an effort....like they were doing you a favor. What a shame because this type of venue is lacking on the UES and this looked like it had potential. It is a hard location and just like its predecessors, JBird won't be in business too long if they don't make some major improvements and fast!

Not bad
Love that that is finally an upscale, trendy bar on the UES that isn't a wine bar. We got the mushroom polenta and a plate of meats and cheeses to share. All were delicious, just needed more bread for the cheese. Atmosphere was cute and trendy and young, but the tables are VERY close together and it's hard to have a conversation without someone else overhearing. Recommend getting a corner table if you can. Drinks are really overpriced and have way too much ice/not enough drink, but still quite tasty. Service was a bit slow... we were seated right away but once we were seated, the waitress only came around every once in a while. I'm going to chalk it up to being because it was opening night. Hopefully this place will only get better - I'll definitely be back!
