When we moved to this neighborhood over a year ago, I was thrilled to find this cute quaint coffee shop with an interesting (although run down) decor. The coffee is very good and I especially like chai latte. A wifi would be an amazing addition. Unfortunately, the service is poor. Very few staff members ever smile. This is not surprising when the owner is not at all friendly to the new patrons. She chats up her old clients but is not interested in welcoming new clients in. This is disappointing. I frequently come to the shop with my child who is in a stroller and I can remember only two times out of at least 15 when a staff member offered to help. I hope the service will change for the better because this shop can still be a lovely neighborhood spot.

This place has a lot going for it but misses out on its potential. It is a very small place and even when it is very crowded the staff seat themselves at a table when customers are standing looking for a seat and they don't get up. Also, the staff looks unhappy and they make a face if you don't give them a tip when you pour your own coffee; maybe they should serve the coffee so they can get tips. You get the feeling at times like you are just a guest taking up space in their living room. It does have a nice atmosphere but the staff isn't friendly and they could be doing more business if they were.

I love this place and have only been a few times. Great coffee, great cookies, great staff, great owner, great vibe & great music. Pound for pound the best coffee place in NYC hands down.

This little hole in the wall tries to be a cool hip coffee shop out of Friends. But is is cramped and obvious in trying to be cool. Coffee is the worst I've ever had. Annoying people hanging out. Overall poor place.

Java Girl is the kind of place that people who dream about living in the city imagine city life to be. Great Coffee, hip, funky atmosphere and inviting to all. Locals sit out front smoking , drinking coffee and talking about news of the day. Great world music and good food to boot.
