I went out to eat here with my friend the other night to give this place a fair shot. Turned out to be the most inefficient service I have had in a while. The server appeared somewhat nice however very unattentive as well as another person who was in plain clothes. Not sure if the owner of what role he played. We ordered our food and it came in fairly decent time. First of all the food is average at best. The taste does not justify their prices especially considering I had to wait 10 minutes after my food was served to get utensils. Also, considering The Islands is a 5 minute walk up Washington Ave, they should seriously re-consider what they are charging. My family background is Caribbean and bar none The Islands is the best Caribbean food you can get in that area if not Brooklyn/NYC . Once our meal was finished it took forever to get our check. We were the only people in the restaurant at that point too and it was really hard to get the attention of anyone. They are just very UN-attentive. Once we got our check it then took forever to to even pay. I then took my credit card and bill to the bar and made sure that I told them to take care of payment. The wait then continued literally as my card sat on the bar for minutes before I had to shout out "Can you run the card please" It was just a really annoying experience for mediocre food. If they are hoping for big business from the emergence of the Barclays center they better get it together there. As said somewhat nice people but not paying attention to simple needs when there was nothing going on in there made it a real bad experience.

Waited over a half hour to place my order, another half hour to wait for pancake and an omelette, coffee and juice did not come until the end of the meal. Sugar and cream for the coffee never arrived. The atmosphere was great, the restaurant was not crowded at all for a saturday at 3pm. There really was no reason to explain why the service was so poor. If I go back I would not go with an empty stomach

The food was alright but definitely not worth the price. I order the stew chicken with pineapple and Mac and cheese. There were like 4 liitle nuggets of chicken, no sauce and one little pineapple chunk. The Mac and cheese was a slither. For less than what they charged you can go on Franklin to Caribbean Kitchen and get waaaaayyyyy more food! And for real stew chicken! And as usual they didn't have something that was on the menu but that's expected from a Caribbean restaurant.

I tried the oxtail at Janelle's and it was amazing! The pieces of succulent meat were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Taste just like how my mom used to make it back home. I went there recently to enjoy the soothing sounds of Jazz music during their "Jazz it Up Sundays" music series, which occurs every Sunday and the ambiance and experience was great! I suggest you visit and see for yourself.

While the atmosphere at Janelle's was absolutely splendid the wait time was entirely too long. I presume since there were 3 different flat screens with the game on, I was a little distracted and didn't gett to impatient. But, I waited 45 minutes for a chicken roti! The roti was a bit dry but edible. I know Janelle's will only get better. I will certainly return. Perhaps I will place my order by phone before I get to the restaurant. I encourage others to experience the taste of Trinidad at Janelle's as well.

Tried the jerk chicken, oxtail. codfish fritters - all excellent. Sides were terrific - you have to try the okra rice! On top of it all, Janelle's staff and owners are wonderful! Can't wait to go back.
