No wonder this place is empty
I have been to Jakes a few times since I live in the area for a number of years, however the trip yesterday will be my last. For starters, I avoid Jakes because they offer absolutely NO happy hour. You'd think an empty bar would have a happy hour to attract customers but I guess they aren't interested in that. Jakes is the kind of place you go if you want a burger and just a burger. My girlfriend got the chopped salad and it was one of the most plain-dry-awful salads I've ever seen. Of course it was $12. She ate it without complaining which was a testament to her. The prices in this place are honestly crazy for the two of us to eat with 1 appetizer for lunch came to $52 and we only drank soda. I'm sure I will not be returning and I dont recommend anyone else go either.

big mistake
I see that nothing has changed since the last review. We have been passing Jake's for many years, and decided to stop in last night - March 23, 2011. We ordered drinks (martinis at $12.50 each - the usual price at most restaurants), and two bowls of chicken vegetable soup. Olives in the martinis were soft and gooey. The soup was served lukewarm at best, and the bread was worse than the worst supermarket bread. The soup consisted of a fair amount of chicken, but had absolutely no flavor. As far as veggies - just lumps of carrots. The bread was brought to the table well after the soup was served. Service was really bad. There were only two other couples when we arrived, and it took 15 minutes to place our order. That alone should have told us something. There are plenty of other places on 9th Ave. with better service, food and drinks. If you want a top-notch martini, as well as quality service, go to Petrossian (near Carnegie Hall) - the price is the same. Try El Azteca for margueritas and great Mexican appetizers. The list could go on, but you get the picture. Don't waste your time or money at Jake's.

Avoid, avoid, avoid...
$3.00 for a soda, need I say more? This place is considerably overpriced for food that is considerably underwhelming. Service was no good. Venture the few extra blocks to find some place actually worth while.

Best Burger In Midtown West
I realize that it is surprising to find the best burger in Midtown West at a bar, but Jake's Saloon on 57th Street has just that. I've eaten in just about every good burger place in this neighborhood and Jake's consistently has the best burger hands-down. The prices here are a little steeper than most places in the area, but the drinks are good, the food is great, the burgers are the best around, the service is excellent, and the bar caters to an upscale clientele. Unlike most of the bars in this neighborhood, people come into Jake's to drink and EAT. Jake's has a good after-work crowd and is also frequented by showgoers from Terminal 5.

Had fun
Had a great time @ Jake's Saloon! Saw an old buddy from college, had a great chix sand and left a little buzzed. Friendly barkeep & cool atmos.

hilarious menu
I've been coming here for a while (convenient for work lunches) and i have to say, it has gone downhill. They just raised their prices to the point of "seriously?" The food quality varies widely depending on what you order and who's cooking. My standing order is the salmon, which, when not overcooked to death, is pretty good. The last time I ordered their onion rings, they were inedible (and i'm no onion-ring snob). Their mango-chicken rolls are a good appetizer, but considering their new price (i think at least $11) it's hard to feel like you're getting a good value. As for their drinks...I swear the glasses have gotten smaller, and again, the quality of their mixed drinks varies widely depending on who's serving. I've had cosmos come in a vairety of colors and flavors - so not exactly dependable. But the pickings are slim in this area, which is what keeps this place busy.

Overpirced!
This place charges top dollar and I cant figure out for what! There are a million places like this, these faux cozy irish pub places but Jakes Saloon had the nerve to charge the kind of prices you might see in the meatpacking district. Forget about what a rip off the drinks are but the menu is just ridiculous! A boring crowd to boot. Its a shame cause I live right around the corner and thought i could make a regular of myself. but like i said, there are a ton of places like this and with reasonable prices.
