Nothing but praise
I have nothing but praise for JLOB - and the experience we had last night sitting at the chef's table. It was my first time and I was pleasantly surprised with how small and quaint the dining room was. I love open kitchens and so we had to sit at the chef's table. We went for the tasting menu, which was divine. I took the recommendation of some of the other reviewers and ordered a couple of extra items from the menu. The waiter/waitress didn't let us down with their suggestions - the clams & chorizo and the froie gras were, indeed, superb! The scallop crudo was so fresh and unique and the steak melted in your mouth. And the tile fish, ooooh the tile fish ... it was phenomenal. All of the dishes were beautifully executed and were equally as delicious. To round out a perfect meal, the staff was so kind and wonderful, which made our night extra special. Thank you JLOB!

Fishy
Went last night. Really wanted to like it. The fish was so fishy even my quail egg risotto tasted like fish.

This place is a joke.
For a place that calls itself a "luxury oyster bar" the oysters were a joke. They were the tiniest oysters I've ever seen. I've eaten a lot of oysters from a lot of different places but these were ridiculous. Also, the cocktail sauce was watered down with so much lemon juice that all I could taste was lemon. We ordered the clams and chorizo which was way too salty and I got some grit in a couple clams. The other dishes that we got (lobster, char and soup) were fine but not even close to worth the price tag. The service was distant and cold. I felt so taken after this meal. I don't mind paying a lot for a good meal but I do mind paying a lot for what amounts to some aggravating apps in an unwelcoming environment.

Never again.
Wow, I'm amazed at all the stellar reviews on this site. I went to Jack's this weekend and do not plan on ever going back again. The portion sizes were beyond insulting considering the prices. My friend and I both ordered the bass entree and were bitterly disappointed. The fish was the size of a large roll of sushi. The "potatoes" which came with the "meal" consisted of two wheat thin sized crispy something or others which I immediately pushed to the side. The "chorizo emulsion" appeared to be a sprinkling of what tasted like bacon bits. For the amount of money they charge for their food this was a real let down. Nouveau cuisine is beyond out so portions that size are simply tacky. My advice, don't go there if you're hungy. We left Jack's and went for dinner somewhere else. AFTER our nearly hundred dollar "meal". Dine there, leave hungry. Your wallet will be as light and airy as your nonexistent meal.

Hungry
Delicious, but portions put a new meaning to the term "small plates" - am not a big eater, but was starved after sharing 11 plates with three people...

Perfect
Every bite meant something. Every bite was just like heaven. Service excellent, atmosphere A+.

JLOBs is a must have
Amazing restaurant, intimate small dishes are served out with swift service. Everything we had was great from the crispy sweet breads to the chorizo and clams. Also, they have a great wine selection and some that are well priced. I am actually planning on going for my second time tonight and will attend again the future. Enjoy.
