We need a cozy neighborhood restaurant and I had hoped this was it. But poor service, a limited menu, and a general inflexibility on the part of staff make this potential standby restaurant one to stay away from.

Let's start with the good points. The atmosphere is great here. Nice and cozy. Great live music some nights. Cool decorations and wall art. The service was just right. Ok, onto the bad. The food was not good... The bread was all crust and almost no bread in the middle (lots ofair bubbles). Served cold. The onion and guyere tart had no taste. All I could taste was the crust. Then came the main course. I ordered the tuna and risotto. The risotto just tasted like sucking on a lemon. No other taste. I ordered it medium rare. The middle was nice and rare, but a quarter inch around it was dry and tough. It reminded me of diner tuna. I really wanted to like this place. The menu read great. Maybe it was an off night, but I would not recommend it to anyone. The price was way to high for such poor taste.

Though service a bit uneven, generally efficient and friendly, though so am I. Attentive maitre d', no bad tables, great specialty martinis, laid-back yet cosmopolitan ambience. Wines by the glass never disappoint. A welcome addition to the 'hood.

We live near by, so it's an easy choice when we're feeling lazy. It's always a pleasant enough experience. The staff is friendly, the music is at an appropriate level so you can carry on a conversation, and the space is attractive. But, the menu is limited and the kitchen is lack-luster. We're always hopeful going in, but leave wishing the food had been a little better.

I had an enjoyable experience dining at Jack this week. I have pretty high standards for burgers - and Jack's burger ranks very high on my all-time favorite list. The fries are fantastic as well. Since I live in the neighborhood, Jack will definitely be one of my "go-to" spots. The atmosphere is pleasing - the lighting is at an enjoyable medium-low level. The music is present, but not-overbearing. These two things I value when a restaurant gets it right, like at Jack.

I competely agree with the first review. I went to Jack today for lunch, and although the food was good, the entire experience was ruined by the lousy service and the attitude problem of our waitress. We were seated immediately, but it took our waitress a good 10-15 minutes to even come over to us and bring us water and menus. Once we ordered, it took a LONG time for our food to arrive, and after that, our waitress basically ignored us. I asked for mustard, and I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for it, etc. When she finally did come over again, my brother asked to order the soup, and she said sure, but by the time we were finished eating and ready for the check, the soup had still not arrived (a good 20 minutes later) I guess she just forgot? A different waiter came up and asked if we needed anything else, and I explained that we were still waiting on the soup, and he said ok, and sent over another waiter to see if we needed anything else (...?) All the while, our original waitress was walking past our table and ignoring us. Finally, I told the waiter to forget the soup and just bring the check, and then our waitress came over and only said "sorry about that, guys". The whole experience was ridiculous and I will not be returning to Jack again.

My boyfriend and I walked into Jack on a Friday night, and had to seat ourselves, even though the hosts were at the door. After looking at the menu, we made the mistake of asking the waitress about the featured glass of wine. She mumbled something for the red wine, and when we asked her what kind it was, she said, "Spanish." Great. So we skipped the wine and ordered our meals. The food was mediocre at best. My boyfriend did enjoy his hanger steak, which I take to be their specialty, but everything else was underspiced and underwhelming. My seafood paella had no trace of salt whatsoever, and the only taste I could get was a faint saffron from the dry rice. The mussels and scallops were tiny and chewy, and there were only three bland shrimp. At the risk of looking like a jerk, I had to vigorously salt and pepper my own dish. The best part of the meal was the apple crepe we had for dessert, although the sauce was extremely buttery, which is probably why the dish tasted as good as it did. Throughout our meal, the waitress was curt and unfriendly, and only briefly visited our table after taking our orders. We will not be returning.
