    Always have a good time

Have been to Jack several times and have always enjoyed the food and the service. The roast chicken was perfect and a friend tells me that the salad nicoise is the best she has ever had. The two entree special provided plenty of tasty food and a reduced-priced glass of very good wine. I recommend Jack for a pleasant evening.

    Brisket Sandwich

I have had mixed experiences at Jacks over the years- amazing hanger steak and burgers, dry chicken and ehhh dips. Now with their light fare menu I am an avid fan. The brisket sandwich is the best I have had in NYC yet- and I have eaten at all the major barbeque places. It is homemade and delicious and $12.50- the rest of the light menu looks just as promising. RECOMMEND

    Really terrific

I have been to Jack's three times in the past two months and have enjoyed it every time. It has a warm atmosphere, warm service and is confortably laid out. It is never crowded, and never empty. I have had the burger, the steak salad, the chili and various appetizers. All really good. Also, it is a great area. All in all I recommend it highly.

    Wouldn't be my first choice

There are plenty of good eateries in the NYU/Union Sq. area, but it is hard to find a relatively inexpensive and yet good place. Jack could have been such place, with an inviting menu and reasonable prices. Too bad that the wonderful looking sandwich I got had so much oil you could hardly taste what was inside. The place has potential, but they need to work on the details.

    Solid Neighborhood spot.

Jack is a solid neighborhood spot with quality food at a reasonable price. I mostly order in from Jack and I have been quite happy with what I've eaten from there restaurant. My girlfriend loves the Spinach dip and thinks the salad's are quite good and I very much like the Roasted Chicken. We haven't been very adventurous with their menu to date, but plan on eating some other dishes from them when we next return. Sometimes we'll grab a bite in the restaurant and they've been very accomodating. The place is clean and well-managed and the staff is fairly friendly, which is always nice. I encourage everyone to give Jack a shot. I don't think you will be dissappointed. You won't be blown away, but they'll deliver consistency, which is always reassuring. I'd like to see people from the neighborhood eat there more often. Whenever I pass Jack, I always peek in and never see more than 6 or 7 tables filled. I worry about their livelihood if this continues to be the case. Give Jack a chance!

    Missing the mark

We need a cozy neighborhood restaurant and I had hoped this was it. But poor service, a limited menu, and a general inflexibility on the part of staff make this potential standby restaurant one to stay away from.

I wanted to like this place...

Let's start with the good points. The atmosphere is great here. Nice and cozy. Great live music some nights. Cool decorations and wall art. The service was just right. Ok, onto the bad. The food was not good... The bread was all crust and almost no bread in the middle (lots ofair bubbles). Served cold. The onion and guyere tart had no taste. All I could taste was the crust. Then came the main course. I ordered the tuna and risotto. The risotto just tasted like sucking on a lemon. No other taste. I ordered it medium rare. The middle was nice and rare, but a quarter inch around it was dry and tough. It reminded me of diner tuna. I really wanted to like this place. The menu read great. Maybe it was an off night, but I would not recommend it to anyone. The price was way to high for such poor taste.
