Trendy People, Rejoice!
I agree with the last reviewer. This is more of a restaurant for pretentious people who are more in love with the idea of good food than the genuine article. My parents love this place and insist on going here for brunch whenever they visit me, but I've tried to enjoy supper here on numerous occasions since it is right around the corner from me. The menu is very limited and, to my taste, boring. Not a lot of offerings for the meat lover. You've got the short ribs, the steak or a burger- yawn... And I was there one night when several customers (including myself) had a look at the dessert list and then decided against it. Somebody needs to explain to the chef that some people don't want fruit for dessert- they want chocolate! And not chocolate mixed with fruit, either! The portions? Pitiful- especially for what they charge. When you order the steak, you don't even get a whole steak. They cut up, like, three medallions of steak and serve it to you that way- but they charge you as if you'd gotten a whole steak! And then the meat is tough! Oh, and by the way. My family got a waiter one time with the phoniest English accent I'd heard outside of a Ren Faire. Hilarious! Though not very respectable. If you are a trendy person who wants to hang out with other pretentious Brooklyn Heights residents and get ripped off, this is place for you.

Grossly overrated
I wanted to be impressed since I've read so many positive reviews. Sadly, I was not. The servers were annoying, cloying and pretentious. The other people in the place were about the same. The food sounded good but was way too salty. We tried about 4 dishes and though they looked and sounded good, for the price, we were disappointed.

Poor Showing
I've probably been to this place a dozen times and appreciated it since it's located in the restaurant wasteland that is Brooklyn Heights. Predictable, solid food. Until my last visit. I very rarely send food back, but when I pay $14 for a cheeseburger I expect to get it done to my liking: medium rare. It was well. They sent another. It was even worse. I sent it back, cut in half. The chef sent it back to our table and said it was fine. The server was embarrassed because he agreed with us and ultimately took it off the check. I'm a chef and just spent parts of the last year creating a burger. The burger was meat loaf. I was insulted. My wife had to restrain me from walking it into the chef and asking him to explain in what kitchen a burger without a hint of red that has been cooked so thoroughly as to be grainy is medium-rare, or even medium. Never going back.

Great Neighborhood Joint!
I agree with all of the previous posts raving about this place. I've now been 3 or 4 times (for brunch and dinner) and absolutely love it. The food is nothing crazy, just simple and very good. The atmosphere is laid back and I'm pretty sure my boyfriend would date the artichoke & pancetta cheesecake instead of me if he could. Don't be fooled by the amateur website - JTH know what they're doing and they do it well.

Very pleasant
Still a relative newcomer, JTHT is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It follows in the footsteps of the unpretentious Henry's End and makes one feel at home. Friendly staff make up for ocassionally unusual menu offerings and help to make this a worthy place to spend an evening.

An Ideal Neighborhood Restaurant
I have eaten at JTH several times and it is consistently great. All of the entrees are delicious and the Mac 'n Cheese appetizer should not be missed. Food, wine, service are all outstanding, but what I like best about it is how comfortable it is. Relaxed, unhurried, lots of pillows, friendly wait staff and bartenders. Beautiful neighborhood setting, two blocks from the Promenade, and the owner/chef is always around talking to his diners.

frequent fliers
We live in Bklyn Heights and dine here very often. VERY often! It is by far the best restaurant in the neighborhood and a much better value for quality than Manhattan. The food is delicious, well prepared, and original. The service is excellent (way above quality of other restaurants in the hood). Underrated! Underrated! Go early when tables are available.
