    Repeatedly Disappointed

This place could basically make a fortune if they just found the proper management and staffing. They have no ability to provide a consistent level of service for even the simplest of orders. This morning I went in to order 5 bagels and a side of cream cheese. The lady taking the orders was slower than molasses and they didn't have any plain, onion, or whole wheat everything bagels. So I ordered 3 regular everything and 2 french toast bagels after waiting them to finish the 2 orders in front of me while seeing staff member after staff member milling around doing nothing, I was informed that the french toast bagels were not yet ready and it would be another 5 minutes and offered no apology. When I asked to see a manager, I was told that there wasn't one in the store right now. What should have been a 5 minute stop turned into 15 minutes and frustration. They really need to figure out how to get their act together.

    not good...with attitude

this place has some nerve. Their bagels are not good enough to charge over $2 each for plain (not toasted, no butter or cream cheese). I ordered a hot dog and when it finally came, they didn't even offer mustard, relish or even sauerkraut. I ordered soup, they didn't offer or even carry crackers. How cheap are saltines? This place needs work. For now, it's just not worth the jacked up prices.

    More ups than downs

Ordered bagel & lox, pastrami sandwich, and spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta portion was tiny, the sandwich was good, and the bagel and lox was about the best that the 5 boroughs can offer. And the delivery took under 30 minutes.

    love it

They have great soups, and great meats. Easily the best turkey pastrami in nyc. They have great daily specials which include chips and a drink if you're looking for a deal. I always go with the soup and half sandwich, best of both worlds.

    BPC Bagels

great bagels & lox for Sunday brunch. We needed a place like this in the area. I like their flagels as well. They work great for an egg sandwich.

    great soups, great food

I love this restaurant. This cute deli opened down the street on south end ave in Battery Park City. Just what we needed. There soups are getting better and better by the day. I think they have a great selection for sandwiches and there meat is very tasty and correctly cut. Best of all is their smoked Salmon. I would say one of the best places for a Bagel and Lox.

    Reliably Disappointing

You could almost feel the anticipation in the neighborhood as this place prepared to open. Battery Park clearly needed a good brunch place, and lo and behold, there was one on the way. The first weekend it was impossible to get a table. But many months later, no one can blame opening jitters or the surprising initial popularity with any seriousness: this is a subpar restaurant. The food, a hybrid of typical NYC brunch and Barney Greengrass style appetizing is bland, and more than frequently cold by the time it arrives - either by delivery or to your table. I can't fault the ingredients - they clearly spend well - but the preparation is almost creatively dull. The problem, I think, lies in the ambition. The staff isn't unlikely up to the task of accomplishing more than a diner (which would also be welcome in the neighborhood), but the owner/manager seems to strive for something a bit more cutting edge. They either need to hire a new chef, one who, for example, knows how to properly cook an omelette, or poach one from a greasy spoon. Honestly, anything else would be preferable. And the prices. I imagine the owners are very, very conscious of their singularity in the neighborhood - the prices are insane, particularly given the food. My favorite incident involved me ordering a sandwich for pickup, to arrive and see that they had jacked the price an additional $2.00. The service is just as poor as the other reviewers report - I have nothing to add. But I will say this - the many failings of this place aren't for lack of trying. The servers try, and you can see that the owners are doing their best. But it's not working - the food is poor, the service slow and forgetful, and the prices almost insulting (though I'll concede I imagine their landlords at the Gateway Plaza are partially responsible for that). Not recommended at all.
