Went here after reading Platt’s review in New York magazine but have to agree with the other reviewer, better ramen elsewhere (love Bassanova and of course Ippudo). I went for the mazemen, but it is the only menu item they don’t serve at lunch (!) so ordered ramen instead. The broth is weak, chicken with a lot of soy sauce. The toppings are minimal and under flavored- a soft boiled egg (not marinated), a piece of pork (not barbequed) and some shaved scallion. Very disappointing for $15. I will say that the noodles, made from rye, are fabulous- just the right bite- dense and chewy, but not too much.

So...i consider myself a ramen expert of sorts and i have to say...after all the rave reviews i have heard about this place...i was not impressed. I mean, the decor and atmosphere were lovely and even the service was wonderful. Not that the food was horrible, because it wasn't, but i can honestly say that i have had much much better ramen. I found the soup base to be boring and for the money they charge...anywhere from $13 to $15 a bowl, i did not feel it was worth that much...the ingredients were minimal. So, if you haven't tried ivan ramen, then by all means, but i think minca, zen 6, kuboya and bassanova ramen are much much better in that they are tastier and give you much more for your $$$$.
