Honest food at a fair price
I live on the same block as this restaurant. The cooking is excellent and the portions are ample. The flavor of the dishes is sufficient for the size of the portion so that you feel replete after eating and don't feel overstuffed-something rarely found in NYC restaurants.

Love it! The Best
The food is unbelievable - you would think you were eating from the fanciest most expensive place ever! Truly delicious, fresh and beautifully presented food. A great bargain for the quality and presentation of the food. The steamed mussels are excellent, as is the salmon, my mouth is watering thinking about it. You will never be disappointed. The mole chocolate cake is worth every calorie!! The service is great - the waiter is so nice and gracious. I just simply love it!

Love it
I have been to Itzocan many times every time and the food, service and value have always been wonderful. I really have no idea how some of these reviewers had such bad experiences. The guacamole is incredible and please trust the chef on the daily specials. He works magic in a tiny kitchen.

Good Food, Not Good Service
I went to Itzocan the other day with my boyfriend who doesn't drink. The service was neglectful and we suspected that, because we didn't order any liquor, the waitress expected us to be cheap. As we finished our main course, two more customers came in. The place is very small and they didn't want to sit at the table next to the kitchen. The waitress waived her hand dismissively toward us indicating that we'd be gone soon. We went elswhere for desert.

Overrated and overpriced!
The food is just average and pricy. The waitress had a bit of an attitude. The restaurant is the size of a shoe box, it has no atmosphere at all. Go to any other Mexican place, Itzocan is simply not worth it!

A red rose on a black and white head
Two young women (and a poon in spirit) - age 20 and 21, from Durham and Syracuse, respectively - visited this hyggelig place yesterday. We knew little of what to expect, and we're not the best with directions, so we relied solely on MapQuest to find this lovely gem. We walked in and sat down at one of two tables. We were the only ones in there. Our immediate thoughts were: restaurant, or Edens 5th floor? Also, the door sounded like a barking dog. These thoughts placed aside, the decorations were marvelous - blue lights and pictures of stunning women graced the walls. We ordered nachos, which were absolutely delicious, but we had to ask for extra salsa (not the best!). Shortly thereafter we ordered diet cokes, which were delivered in can form with accompanying straws. The two straws were not the same color - one was opaque and one was translucent!!! After we recovered from the shock, we ordered what we thought would be a quesadilla and an enchalada. In theory, they were delicious. In reality, the chicken was not chicken. It was bruised chicken, kind of rooster-like. Despite the chicken, we still had to order extra salsa. There was magical in the salsa though, because it prompted us to conceive a plan in which we went on vacation with two people who we have never really spoken to. All in all, a positive experience, recommended by none, perceived as unique by all.
