One bad experience...
Went for brunch. No bread. Manager overcharged us for a glass of OJ that I never ordered. French toast really soggy Baked eggs take forty minutes not twenty That being said, the food is okay if you are willing to wait an hour for eggs and/or french toast

Expensive for a hood restaurant
We cannot say its a bad restaurant , we actually enjoyed the dishes but when the bill came we were surprised. We ordered 2 starters the duck quesadilla was very good, the huitlacoche mousse was really dilluted in flavor if you are an expert in Huitlacoche. The lamm shank was good but 100% french tasting and the chicken was overprized for 20 dollars . Dont get me wrong i would pay more if it was worth the ingredients and taste...but pollo en salsa verde? We missed some rice for the sauces and some tortillas or beans which for a mexican style place would have been really great and because they serve so much sauce with the meat. Service is only one man. Area not the most beautiful. Somebody mentioned the mosquitoes, i had the same experience in Taco Taco...not nice I wouldn repeat the experience just because of the high prices

a fantastic brunch, even if you don't like to brunch...
It's small. It's mexican-french? It's tasty. Another reviewer would end this sentence with a world play like "It's Itzocan!" but Itzocan deserves better than that. We've had the pleasure of enjoying the $10 weekend brunch many times. The baked eggs casserole (with chorizo, poblano peppers and musrooms) is very unique and delicious. Even standard sides liked mixed green salad and roasted potatoes are impressive with exceptional flavor. And did I mention it's $10?! Also important: Good Coffee.

best restaurant I've been to this (and last!) year
This is the first time I've rated a restaurant, but I had to do so because I was so impressed with this place. My family is a lover of great sangria and of excellent food and this place has both. The sangria was literally the best we've ever had, and each of our dishes was phenomenal (including the filet, the duck, the mushroom crepees, ribs, soup, guacamole, mussels). All of the meat was very tender and prepared perfectly. I will definitely go back to Harlem (from the east village) for this gem. We had a group of 6, and they accomodated us well but it's best for up to 4 people or a date. And the staff was very friendly and hospitable. 5 out of 5!!

creative combinations of bursting flavor
great place to go and grab some very interesting yet delicious dishes...i really enjoy the creativity of the menu items and the bursting flavors...the menu is usually stable and that means they cook what they are good at...i have tried nearly everything on the menu and it is all good!!! if you're looking for something fun to try go to itzocan...i would say it isn't in the best of locations, but i have never experienced a problem...some might say it is a little pricey, but for the quality, taste and presentation it is right on...it is a very small place and thus it can be a rather intimate setting...never too loud so you can enjoy the people you're dining with...nothing special about the decor, but i am going there for the food...one of the city's best restaurants in my opinion!!!

I know the man!
I came here once with the son of the owner and my friend! I was grateful to be invited to join them for dinner! I was even more grateful for the food that was served to me! The food was great and the service was great! If also felt if I was at my own home! Maybe because I am also Mexican, but even with that I enjoyed that there was Mexican culture presented in the restaurant!

Good food, Poor Service
First off, the neighborhood is not a nice place to be at night. Once you're seated (watch out for the mosquitoes), be prepared for poor service. The waitress (there is only one) is slow, messed up our orders (we waited 45 minutes for appetizers), and then dramatically overcharged on the tax to increase her tip. It's a good option for the neighborhood but that's about it.
