We wanted a cozy, quiet place to meet friends midweek and enjoy our company and a good meal. We got the first half. Biggest complaint was the service, followed by a thoroughly mediocre meal. Amazingly we were not permitted to order our appetizers first and order the main meal later, it all needed to be done at one time. By order of the chef. And after ordering it all, the appetizers were served after the salad! Dishes were constantly being removed and resupplied only after being requested. It was only the good company we enjoyed that kept us from leaving after the bread.

My shrimp entree was really mediocre and sloppily served. My friend sent back both her appetizer which was too salty and drowned in butter, and her pasta entree was inedible. The waiter said " I just work here and can't do anything" and the manager shrugged her shoulders and charged us for everything. There was no attempt to correct or substitute anything. I told them I would not return and they were uninterested.

Romantic, delicious. Get the Rollatine Di Melanzane appetizer

My wife and I have been visiting Italainissimo for years. We have eaten all over NY and at some of the more known spots, Italianissimo keeps us coming back. This is not a 'scene', if you are looking to see celebs, or restaurant name drop, this isn't your place. Italianissimo is a cozy hole in the wall. My wife and I know both of the waiters, and much of the staff. It is home. Oh, and the FOOD! My biggest recommendation: listen to the specials! They are often the best thing going. They will make you anything you could imagine, but the specials are usually out of this world scrumptious.

I've come here several times with my boyfriend and the food is always always amazing! Yes it is dimly lit and if you can I would suggest to be seated towards the front but other than that I think it's do-able.... We always get this one waiter who somehow manages to get us to order dessert when we never eat it but when you come here you know it's gonna be on the more expensive side so we like to save it for special occasions! My fav is the Beef carpaccio - it's so good it melts in your mouth! I would suggest dine-in only as a previous reviewer - just b/c we did order delivery one night and it's just not the same.

Loved the intimate character (there are only 12-15 tables max) and was not put off by the dark lighting as other reviewers have suggested. Waiter was extremely friendly and made some great suggestions. My wife tried the salmon and I chose angel hair with clams, mussels and shrimp - both delicious choices. Also - you can order a half bottle of wine, an option that most restaurants don't offer. Would definitely recommend as a great place for a first (or 20th) date.

The place is lovely and atmospheric, but it's so dark we had to pass the table light back and forth to read the menu. The bread was vapid. The salads were fine, and there was a good selection of 1/2 bottles of wine (unfortunately a rarity), but the pasta was overcooked and oversauced. The service was excellent and pleasant.
