Wonderful!
We discovered Italianissimo several years ago and love it. We are regulars. The service is extremely attentive and the atmosphere is cozy and usually quiet. I think they have the best red sauce in the city. The specials are always special, but if you don't like them, the chef will make anything you'd like.

Poor service and overpriced wine
I had dinner with my girlfriend here on Saturday night, and we were very disappointed. We waited for 15 minutes before the waiter brought us menus! Then, he proceeded to rattle off specials and informed us that there is no written list for wines by the glass. We should have left then, but unfortunately we stayed and it got worse. The meat was overcooked and rubbery. The chardonnay was cheap table wine (think $4 bottle in a wine store), but cost $12.50 per glass. I am never going back. FYI, the "early bird" specials are not offered on weekends.

Favorite restaurant by far!
My husband and I have been visiting this place since we discovered it in 2003. The food and atmosphere are incredible. Each year we travel back to NYC, we have the same waiter with the same high quality food and service. The entrees melt in your mouth and the atmosphere make you feel like you are in another country. I will continue going here every year until I am old and gray! I just wish they would open one in Florida!

Early birds catch no worms?
We tried to have their early bird fixed price special on Sunday. They advertize it as "all week" on their website. They have no statement about what days it is available on their printed take-out menu. After we were told it was available by a waiter and were seated, we were told that the chef was saying that the early bird special was only available Monday to Thursday. There was no manager. That sure seems like misleading advertizing. We did not stay.

Waaaaay overrated
Very mediocre salad, my wife had mushy fish as a special (ripoff at almost $33), and my veal saltimbacca had dry proscuitto on top of tasteless veal. I can't believe the high ratings here and on zagat.com. There have to be much better modest Italian eateries on the UES. what a disappointment!

Great Hidden Gem on the UES
This little romantic restaurant is a hidden gem on the upper east. I have been here 5 or 6 times now and continue to be impressed with the menu. Ordering takeout definitely isn't as good as dining in, but still delicious. A great date spot!

Forgettable
We wanted a cozy, quiet place to meet friends midweek and enjoy our company and a good meal. We got the first half. Biggest complaint was the service, followed by a thoroughly mediocre meal. Amazingly we were not permitted to order our appetizers first and order the main meal later, it all needed to be done at one time. By order of the chef. And after ordering it all, the appetizers were served after the salad! Dishes were constantly being removed and resupplied only after being requested. It was only the good company we enjoyed that kept us from leaving after the bread.
