Love them like cooked food!
I love the Islands.I love the oxtails they make me want to cry they are so good. I also can't resist the garlic shrimp..OMG! I love when the two sisters are there cooking together..Those women can cook. It should be against the law to cook such good carribean meals.

One of the best!
After swimming all day in the hot NY sun, I needed to replenish my body. So I did a google search and found Islands, which happened to be rated 4 stars and very close to my location. One of the reviews stated that the meat falls right off of the bone and let me tell you - it surely does! I am so glad I decided on this gem of a restaurant, while very small, Islands is definitely worth the trip to Brooklyn. & wouldn't you know it while I was there ordering my Oxtails, ABCTv called them to do a segment! Islands is on the map and a must-eat for me! I give this restaurant 4*'s, not because anything was wrong but because no one is perfect - & sadly I must say they didn't have the jerk chicken wings that I was dying to try because I know without a doubt they were going to melt in my mouth after setting it on fire!! Try Islands - you will not be disappointed.

Its not worth the hassle!
Its not worth the hassle! Considering the food mecca that is New York – especially in BK, my advice is skip this place and go elsewhere! Islands restaurant looks like its in dire need for renovation. There are barely two seating options: Kitchen-front stool seating downstairs (which isn't really much of an option considering the small space) and theres a steep narrow stairway leading to table seating upstairs with very limited seating and head space as the ceilings are low (I had to duck).

Just great food period
The food at this restaurant reminds so much of my childhood when my mom used to cook in the kitchen for is kids and you just couldn't wait to taste the great meal that was to come. The ladies that run the place are just so sweet welcoming I would recommend takeout since the place is so small and tends to fill up fast with hungry regulars like myself from all walks of life lol. Try to avoid this place during target first saturdays at the Brooklyn museum it gets very crazy with the wait times , and again this a no cc zone so cash is king .

Take me away, to the Islands
I LOVE this place. I cannot express enough how much I LOVE this place. Yes, the food is delicious. Made with t.l.c. and you can taste it. Yes, the service is a little slow, yes, it's a tiny hole-in-the-wall, but you really feel like you're on the islands. Everybody is laid back and relaxed. If you want take-out, call ahead. Give yourself approx. 1 and a half to 2 hours if you are dining in. Sit back and get ready to enjoy a wonderful meal. The prices are great, the servings are HUGE and it's BYOB! I have sampled most of the menu. Jerk chicken and shrimp are my favorite. The calypso shrimp is also good but a little too much coconut for my taste. If you like exotic meat, the goat curry is delicious. The wings are great and the mac and cheese is always worth the wait. I would also recommend the curried vegetables. I can't say I've ever ordered anything I didn't like. It's right across from the Brooklyn Museum and the Botanical Gardens are just down the street. On nice days, I order take-out and enjoy my food on the museum steps while I people watch. I highly recommend this place! And I love the ladies that run it, they are the sweetest!
