    Killer food & service

Island has one of the best dishes in the city.... Food usually arrives to the table in 15 minutes but some 20-30 moins. Due to crowdedness.... service overall is great.... great for small parties... specially BDay party... or friends night or day out... I would recommend this to anyone. So ENJOY!

    Superb neighborhood gastropub

I've lived two blocks from Island for 15 years now, and it's one of my favorites. The staff are charming, the ambience is relaxed and sophisticated, and the food is always first-rate. No, it's not cheap, but remember that Carnegie Hill is the City's most affluent per-capita neighborhood and it starts to make sense. Investment bank CEOs stop by here for a simple dinner with their families (I've seen them). The menu is varied, and always includes the burger, one of the best in the city IMHO. The waiters know me and my wife and greet us like long lost friends when we drop by. What more could you ask for?

    Best spot in town

Large portions and delicious food make this my favorite weeknight spot on the upper east side. Enjoy mingling with carnagie hill's elite and dont forget to order the ice cream sandwich for desert.

    Disappointed

I recently stopped in for an early dinner on a Friday evening in Manhattan. While the atmosphere was warm, cozy, elegant & inviting, the service made the experience less than desirable. Since I was eating alone I decided to sit at the counter bar to dine. The restaurant was mostly empty at that time, & the servers were all standing up by the bar chatting amongst themselves. This did not change once the restaurant got more crowded...It was difficult to get anyone's attention, let alone the indifferent woman bartender who was serving. After paying the bill, I was not acknowledged, thanked or given any common courtesy. So...overall great atmosphere, however, pricey menu deserves much better service!

    What every neighborhood needs

We all need restaurants like this. Basically a pub, it serves food that's straightforward and abundant and big pours of wines by the glass. You won't think you're in heaven, but you'll enjoy your meal. the service is excellent, and the bar is usually filled with singles eating alone and chatting. A perfect neighborhood restaurant.

Very Good Place Deserves Better Reviews

I have eaten at Island many times and it is a favorite - the food is freshly prepared and honest. If you order chicken, it arrives piping hot bec it has been prepared moments before it is served. This is not a microwave place. Everything ordered is better than expected. I love the seafood tartare appetizer, the egg white omlette at lunch is the best, and their "ice cream sandwich," a dessert of their own design is too good it is toasted brioche with high quality cream and home made butterscotch sauce that is rare for its sweet/touch of salt flavor. Overall, the food is more sophisticated than it first looks the quality of the ingredients is high and the restaurant trys to please. It sounds like some may be turned off by the preppy neighborhood environment but preppies have to eat too and many of them are at Island bec it offers great food in a up beat relaxed setting.
