I have now visited Island several times-becoming somewhat of a regular actually. I normally come in for lunch during weekdays with friends though I have come during brunch as well with my husband and new born. I find the staff to be very accommodating, pleasant and knowledgeable. The food, though I normally stick to salads is always good and I don't feel as though I am paying too much for what I am receiving. Its a cozy place lots of locals and regulars. Meagan who is normally the hostess when I go always just seems so helpful to the customers and other staff. You can get a real family feel there, its like they are a family and are welcoming you to be a part of it. Absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Live in the neighborhood & have been going to Island for years as a single couple. We have a 6 month old at this time & have experienced nothing but rudeness on our last 2 visits regarding bringing our child w/ his stroller. I would use a high chair but my son does not sit up yet. Just made a rez & the hostess told me she would try to work us in at the time of our rez w/ stroller, I offered to sit outside. Then last last visit we sat outside & the hostess told us 3 times our son was not close enough to the table, she slammed his forhead in the stroller against the table. She also told me I could not rock him back & forth in his stroller to calm him down. Overall very frustrated with the female hostess.

A bit squashed since tables were too close together. Servers were friendly and helpful. Prices were a tad high but the food was tasty. At end of the meal we declined dessert but waiter brought out two espressos and a plate of cookies gratis.

As our first time there, my wife and I were more than satisfied. The suggested wine was better than expected and priced accordingly. The service was sincere and the food was prepared correctly and promptly. I found the atmosphere pleasant and as we completed our dinner, the customers continued to fill the seats. Apparently the place is doing something right. We decided to return! Happily satisfied....Croton on Hudson N Y

There are better restaurants close by. The food is not eclectic, as the owner states above, but traditional and average. Prices are high. But the worst part - and I have been going here intermittnetly for over 7 years as I live in the neighborhood - is the service. The service is consistently poor, under staffed, under trained, and ever changing. You want it to be great, or at least good, because it is an attractive place, but it always disappoints. I was there again tonight because other restaurants in the neighbirhood were full, and many clients were complaining about the food and the service. I doubt it will ever change. It hasn't in 7 years. Advice from a seasoned Carnegie Hill neighbor - use this as your last resort restaurant.

I went here for dinner with my son. One entree came out lightening fast - the other took forever. We skipped dessert and then they rudely asked us to give back the table because it was reserved. I used to suck up the fact that the food was mediocre and over priced because the atmosphere and service was good but no more. We won't be back!

This is the place to go for classic seafood dishes. It is Upper East Side casual elegance at its best! Love the preppy boating decor.
