Island Burgers & Shakes

The burgers are to die for. Huge with just the right amount of seasonings. They are a little bit on the rare side so be careful. Tons of toppings and styles to choose from. My favorite is the Mona. Shakes are great, the cookies make a great dessert afterwards.

Island Burger has one of the best hamburgers not only in NYC but in the U.S. I do not exaggerate. It has to be tasted to be believed and you will enjoy the tasting. If you don't like the burgers here then you just don't like hamburgers. Their take on medium rare is on the rare side, which is fine by me: you can really taste the delicious meat and juice. My only quibble is about the milk shakes: they are so thick that a straw is useless; you end up using a spoon.

I went last night with a friend of mine to enjoy some amazing food, and was not disappointed. The chicken sandwiches are wonderful. The strawberry malted shake tasted like crunch berries, but my black and white shake was great. Other than the very small tables and lack of elbow room I'd say this is one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Please go, maybe if they get more business they'll be able to move to a larger space!

Stopped in today for lunch with my family. This was one of the best burgers we ever had. It was so big we could barely finish our lunch. The medium rare burger is more like rare burgers in other places. However they were warm and juicy. Well worth the price which we thought was totally reasonable. We also tried the Italian chicken stick and Thai chicken sticks. The Italian was really spicy to me; the Thai had one of the best sauces I have tried - nice kick to it. My son had the chili burger - chili had great taste to it, was really spicy. Will have to try the shakes next time as well. We came out of there so full we couldn't think about eating again. for the rest of the afternoon. Will be sure to stop in next time we hit the City again. Would definately recommend it to our friends and anyone else looking for a great burger. Just be warned the restaurant looked like a dive but go in anyway.

This is one of my favorite places in NYC. I have to admit, though, that I have never had the burgers because the chicken sandwiches are so good, I've never been able to order anything else. There are tons of suggested sandwiches but you can also create your own (my favorite is chicken on a roll - the rolls are the best! - with muenster cheese and bacon. It is delicous! They also have really good guacamole. The restaurant has a great laid-back vibe. They are always playing good music and plenty of magazines to read.

Walking down 9th avenue and discovered this restaurant. Service was prompt and fast. Selection is great. Server was friendly and helpful. He knew we were from out of town, but did not treat us as such. Made us feel very welcome. Come with an appetite and leave full. Definitely worth a stop on your next trip down 9th.

In a neighborhood inundated with weird places to eat, Island is perfect. The place is clean and fun, and their menu of burgers is outstanding. I got the Route 66 which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The milkshake only added in making the spot one of my favorites in the city. Friendly, prompt, and perfectly delicious with great value. I highly recommend it!
